Just need some perspective today

Around here trail riding is fairly easy if you have a sensible trained horse. I’d have to haul an hour to hit rugged terrain. Having sensible riding companions is the most important part IME. I remember giving the boarders I was riding with in the early spring on the dirt road (because the ring was not usable yet due to a huge snowdrift that was still melting and we were legging up the horses that had months off) that in no uncertain terms that taking off for a brisk canter was NOT a good idea. We all lived, but it could have been too exciting.

I hope this makes sense! It’s been a long day.

Some horses are a little hot &/ nutty. Some people like that, some don’t. If you don’t want a crazy mare, sell her and buy a quiet gelding.

Horses are like people - when they show you who they are, believe them. Great thing about horses is you are allowed to sell them. Really, you can.

I’ve got a dead broke gelding and he almost bores me to death. Give me a bitchy mare and I’m happy as a clam.

I am late to the thread, so this may have been mentioned. I use the Herbs for Horses Serenity for my guy. Not so much for the calming but to help with stress/reactivity. It doesn’t work for every horse but I do find him less reactive when he is on it.
