He was off on his left hind the day after the Derby. Turns out is was a heel bruise, not uncommon, not serious, and he was back galloping a couple days later. I’m sure we are talking about the same video. Why do you say he could barely walk on either hind?
Dont know what the truth is but his angles are seriously JACKED UP… And no this is not his front legs!!!:eek::eek:
When that photo was taken, he was sprayed by cold water. I doubt that’s the way he normally stands.
Despite just being a $2 bettor, I still get preoccupied with “value” and the miss the fact I would’ve been a-ok with the Derby payout even with GM and Justify … didn’t there used to be a headwall smiley?
Justify aside, I tend to look askance at a lot of the pasterns I see - admittedly just watching the live streams of the sales and in photos. So many tend to look sooo/too long to me.
I’d say the photo was taken out of context. Where is the rest of the horse. He appears to be standing just a bit camped out, and yes his pasterns appear long, but again, we’re out of context.
He is galloping like a machine.
Can I just say, “Well, sh-t. How come that’s never the story with MY horse’s lameness?”
Dont know how many will actually go to the gate but many bettors will just wheel the field in an exacta with Justify on top hoping something with long odds will hit the board in second. Or put $2 to win on all of them. Smaller the field, more likely this is going to happen, exotic bets with lots of horses in combinations gets less expensive with better odds of a payout. Screws up the odds for traditional betting on all of them.
So does buying a ticket on a big name horse as a souvenir.
They showed some footage of him on the local news this morning of him galloping at Churchill shot yesterday. Moving really well and comfortably. He ships tomorrow according to the talking head. Many questions to answer but he looks ready.
welcome to racing… that type of hoof profile is very common in racers.
Those who know about the 3/4 shoe. I’ve never seen this. Are there any increased risks for soft tissue injury due to any loading imbalance? Is he likely to get a full shoe for the Preakness? Looking to learn something new! Thanks.
I hope to be at Pimlico when he arrives tomorrow so I can see for myself
The smaller the field, the smaller the exacta payout usually is, unless the longest shot on the board finishes 2nd.
No increased risk, he can run in that shoe with no problem. Looks like rain allllll weeeekkkkk.
Colt has a full shoe on:

No Dallas Stewart this year? sigh
Laurierace, hoping you can make Pimlico and give us a full report
I’d be interested in what you can (if anything) see of his LH shoe and if you notice any gait irregularities and how he looks/acts…
They take them straight from the van to the stall so will only see him for about a minute but should be enough to get a general idea.
The state vets have had their eyeballs all over him all week at KY and they MD state vets will have their eyeballs all over him the few days he is in MD before the Preakness. No disrespect meant to Laurie’s eyeballs.
That was great, thank you.
