Kate (Katherine Leigh) Ostermeier Situation

I also had a horse with Kate, and was contacted yesterday and informed of the dire situation. I expected that my mare was at death’s door. I’m sure you’ll all be disappointed to hear this wasn’t the case. Was she underweight, yes, but far from the desperate situation that was described to me. I heard that Kate was obstructing owners from getting their horses back, I’d need the police. None of this was true. I called Kate and told her I was having my mare picked up, and wanted no problem, and there were none. I spoke with Animal Control, they told me the situation was blown way out of proportion. I spoke with the police, they told me the same thing. Then the do-gooder that called me to inform me of the situation so generously offered to rush down and take my mare off of my hands and nurse her back to health. How generous. I don’t know what kind of condition the other horses were in, but in my case the situation wasn’t nearly as bad as what I’ve read here. The police and animal control both confirmed that the all of you were ones fueling the fire. How about for now you all get real lives and leave Kate alone, if you want a cause, save the starving children in Africa. Just none of you forget to take your meds.

So are you saying there were no horses that were in need of intervention on her farm? That you did not see any issues when you were there picking up your horse?
That the local authorities are not concerned and all of the allegations are made up here?

Ab2002, but your horse was underweight?

Did you remove her or leave her?

Oh goodie the house guests have arrived.

It always just blows me away that there is anyone willing to post in defense of [edit].

I was not there, but I know what I heard from Animal control, their vet and the police, I saw pictures of my mare and she is certainly not in a desperate situation. Kate isn’t devoid of blame, but what i was told (and read) vs what i experienced, were dramatically different. I’m saying stop all the gossip, get a life, and leave the kid alone. But I’m sure none of you will be able to do that. Why waste a good drama?

^^^^Unless my eyes deceive me, the pics I saw of mares in the care of “Kate”, were horrific. Body scores of 2. The concern and offers to help on this forum have been genuine IMO. Very glad you were able to recover your mare without incident. As for the snark, I would check that at the door. JMV

So you haven’t seen anything more then photos of your horse and its assumed condition yet feel that you have all the “scoop” needed to chastise people who have posted photos of their horses pulled from Kates?

BTW the last time I checked she’s an adult … not a “kid”.

Sometimes life throws you curve balls and you have to ask for help. With all the kindness expressed here, I have no doubt all “Kate” had to do was ask. JMV

Did you remove the horse, who you have again stated was not in good condition, or did you leave her there?

I guess it all depends the condition YOU keep your horses in…if to you, your mare was ok, pity the poor mare if she was any where close to the pictures we saw.
But remember, Jill Burnell’s mares were in eventing fit condition too!!! And heck, of course AC will sweep this under the table… less work for them and the really emaciated mares were removed.
It all makes so much sense!!

I trusted Kate with my BELOVED old mare and her daughter who I bred, raised and LOVE. I did that because she promised them the best of care. Those two mares are so well bred that people trip over themselves asking to lease them… But I believed Kate when she described a lush, beautiful farm with a stall for every horse and fantastic care. Maybe you don’t think its a big deal and we should all leave her alone because YOUR horse is OK… Well that is heartless, short sighted and selfish. MY wonderful, kind, family raised mares were half STARVED (allegedly) and I have pictures to prove it. Yes, one is old… So let’s go ahead and make excuses for that. The other is an EASY keeping 5year old mare who has never known what skinny is. My sweet heart. My baby… Starved (allegedly) and covered in horrible rain rot so that she has huge raw patches on skin all over. I am not exaggerating. Go look at the pictures yourself… They are posted. I am not being a “drama lover” I am heart broken and angry!!! I am blaming myself and shaking mad at her. This is not about drama… It is about the pain of trusting someone with a soul that you love, and then finding out that it was (allegedly) allowed to suffer. I’m glad your mare was one of the lucky ones. Maybe she is just extremely dominant and it was her pasture mates who (allegedly) suffered. Maybe her (allegedly) starving pasture mates were my gentle Mammas… Who were (allegedly) hungry and cold while Kate was inside her home, or out at a restaurant, or on vacation with her BF. Don’t ask me to leave the poor girl alone.

People told me Kate was mentally unstable, my horse was being hidden, I’d need the sheriff, animal control had taken over the property, she was 300 pounds underweight. All untrue. I called Kate told her i wanted to take my horse back and that was that. Animal control told me they didn’t think it was necessary the vet had graded my mares condition as “Good”. (No numerical score) It wasn’t willful negligence and given the harsh winter not an isolated case. And by the way, i have children Kate’s age, so to me she’s a kid. I’ve wasted enough time with this and have said my piece. i guarantee there are situations in this world more desperate than this. I’d suggest you all refocus your energy.

Ab2002 says they were contacted only yesterday about their mare’s dire situation. And someone ran straight over for you and took pics for you? I just want to make sure I’m getting this right? And you’ve looked through all the other pics of the other mares and you’re ok with their treatment? Just checking.
Ok so who of the owners is left that haven’t picked up their mare that would’ve only been contacted just yesterday? I’m sure it can’t be hard to figure out who this person is defending Kate’s actions. And that do-gooder you speak of, Ab2002, MUST be following this thread and I urge that person to speak up and verify that Ab2002 Is being truthful. When I spoke to AC, (and I really did talk to them), they didn’t say anything of blowing things out if proportion at all but rather did say it would be wise to remove the mare in question ASAP.

That’s rich to justify suffering by saying there are circumstances with even more suffering elsewhere. For those who have animals involved THIS case takes all priority.

BTW harsh winter is a BS excuse. When the weather is poor you increase the care.

If Kate had contacted me before the mares were skinny, I would have found them new places to be. It would have been inconvenient, to place a broodmare in the winter… But I would have done it. The lack of kindness that you implied at with your apparent sarcasm is due to the fact that she knew they were (allegedly) going hungry and did nothing… Not because she (allegedly) lost the income she was relying on. After all, I sent my mares to her because hay costs have gone up so much here in Fl… And I was having difficulty providing for them in the way they should be.

I’m glad that your mare was in good enough condition for you to leave her in Kate’s care, even though you yourself said it wasn’t good, and that your mare was thin.

The photos provided of other mares in Kate’s care are not good, maybe they are good enough for some, but clearly most of us see horses needing more food than they are currently being provided with, especially mares in foal.

But again, I’m glad your mare was ok enough for you…even though you said she was thin…and aren’t there. And maybe didn’t look at the photos of other people’s horses…but still want to tell people not to be concerned…about their own horses.

You people are comical, don’t you have anything better to do? Actually i was contacted Saturday, and the shipper stopped by and picked her up Sunday. Believe it or not.

Sometimes one feels the need to project onto others things they feel guilty about because of their own inaction. Frankly, I admire those that ran over and took pics, arranged for feed/hay donations, contacted owners etc. Those “do gooders” are actually to be applauded, lest an owner remain unaware of the dire situation and their mare ends up a “2” or dead. Just saying my “peace”.

You should really try harder to remember what you have written 15 mins ago …

I think it would be easier to believe you if you would simply say which horse was your horse, Ab2002. As in, what’s her name?
