Kate (Katherine Leigh) Ostermeier Situation

The mare with her leg stuck is amazingly still alive. We don’t know how long she was like that. Notice the blood all over the wall. This was a mare she never finished paying for. She is now back with her owner. Will never be sound again. KO told people it was just a cosmetic injury.

Chestnut gelding is owned by Katie Eubanks. Older gelding. Obviously very emaciated and then developed pneumonia. Couldn’t stand. Had to be drug into clinic and can on matts. With a lot of care it looks like he’s going to make it thankfully.

Just a reminder. Making nasty phone calls and demonizing the sheriff and animal control is not the way to get help to the remaining horses. It almost always backfires.

 There are no words to accurately describe those pics.

AB2002 - how on earth can you think that things are not as bad we’ve been told after looking at those photos!?!? It’s great that your mare is ok, but don’t turn a blind eye to those that were not so fortunate

SAD. JUST SAD

I do not know anyone in these particulars but, it seems like you are seeing more and more of these types of cases as high and grain prices have skyrocketed. I wish there was a organization or system in place that owner who are down on their luck (not saying is or is not the case here) can ask for assistance in these situations before they get to this point. I suspect many do not want to loose their horses, or, do not know where to go for help and for the sake of the horses it would be great if there were groups that could help without.

As this is definitely true, it was not the case for KO. She was receiving 20k a month from an investor.

What??? OMG!

The investor backed out sometime in December as she would not send him info on what the money was going to. He was investing as a tax write off. All he needed was info to file and she wouldn’t send anything.

so, now she has someone to blame? wonderful…

She is using every excuse possible….bad winter, investor walked out, she didn’t think she could get help if she asked, blah blah blah.

HOWEVER 20k a month is more than enough to have backup.

I am absolutely disgusted. How could someone do this?

They do it all the time. Especially in Kentucky.

Yes, I think they do it because they know they can get away with it with maybe just a slap on the wrist. If they thought there would be real consequences other than bad press, they might think twice.

The commonwealth of Kentucky just enables neglect and abuse of its animals. Wow. Do they treat the people there this way too?

What say you Powers that Be?

only 7 posts and this one is all in defense of [her].

Kentucky isn’t the problem. Crazy people are the problem.

Here’s an example of Kentucky and animal welfare.

Yes, crazy people are the problem, but Kentucky is notorious for letting them get away with it. We have bottom feeders too who just don’t care. KY is not the only state though. The NE seems to have animal welfare laws with teeth and animal welfare employees who are effective.

The NE is actually civilized and has been for a long time. NC is a shocker both for horses and people.

I also had a horse with Kate, and was contacted yesterday and informed of the dire situation. I expected that my mare was at death’s door. I’m sure you’ll all be disappointed to hear this wasn’t the case. Was she underweight, yes, but far from the desperate situation that was described to me. I heard that Kate was obstructing owners from getting their horses back, I’d need the police. None of this was true. I called Kate and told her I was having my mare picked up, and wanted no problem, and there were none. I spoke with Animal Control, they told me the situation was blown way out of proportion. I spoke with the police, they told me the same thing. Then the do-gooder that called me to inform me of the situation so generously offered to rush down and take my mare off of my hands and nurse her back to health. How generous. I don’t know what kind of condition the other horses were in, but in my case the situation wasn’t nearly as bad as what I’ve read here. The police and animal control both confirmed that the all of you were ones fueling the fire. How about for now you all get real lives and leave Kate alone, if you want a cause, save the starving children in Africa. Just none of you forget to take your meds.[/QUOTE]

Well I mean - this did happen weeks ago so she has had plenty of time to cover up her act!
I know first hand what one of these mares looked like and what the owner went through. My best friend was close to one of the owners and has shared with me the events thus far.
You are blind and very naive.
Why on earth did it NOT bother you that your mare was skinny???
