Kate (Katherine Leigh) Ostermeier Situation

If ab2002 is who he says he is, perhaps out of the goodness of his heart, he could talk to KO and get all the mares out of that situation. He certainly could help get Zena back to Wendy. Now that would be a horseman who is selfless and cares.

I am in KY farm hunting and have gone to several (crappy) farms w/ horses that are in fields w/ no shelter, hardly any grass, and what seems to be only moldy hay for a food source. yet they are of acceptable weight (no ribs). So it seems to me Kate was (allegedly) actively not taking care of her horses in order for all of this to happen.

Apparently the horses were contained in high-end stalls so they couldn’t get out and eat something.

Like maybe the owner or barn manager.

AB2002 , all I have to say is that I feel terribly for the horses that you own. If you can look at the condition of the mares in those pictures and think nothing of it, I suggest you get out of horses. Basic horse care is something you are clearly unfamiliar with.

Nope, horses are livestock literally and figuratively in KY.[/QUOTE]

Then the Kentucky Horse Park ought to be called Kentucky Livestock Park.
What a sham.

I am the person who advised Mr. Woschenko of the situation at Kate Ostermeiers. I am Wendy Artzt owner of Signature Farm. I have not been following the last posts so I was more than shocked to see what he has written about me and the situation. I knew who Poppy’s owner was because I had owned her full sister years ago and she was stolen and resold in Europe. I contacted Mr. Woschenko to see if Poppy (Sunny) was my mare. I had known details about Kate’s situation for some time although not the condition of the horses in her care. As I was the only one who seemed to know who the owner was I contacted him passing on the details. I am not going to give my version of the discussions as no good deed seems to go unpunished. The good news is that Poppy is out of Kate’s and in a very good care facility. I am also a breeder and 5 of my horses are co-owned by US team rider Marilyn Little. I am not a rabble rouser and had nothing to gain by getting involved and I certainly did not want Mr. Woschenko’s mare with a foal coming from Cobra One whose sale I had agented 2 owners ago. He leased the mare to Kate for free so I offered to take her if he was out of the horses and had no use for her. She is of no value what so ever to me. I have known the mare since she was 2 in Germany. I arranged a place for his mare and a pick up and then I read his post about me. A thank you would have sufficed.

Posting on behalf of Barbara Bright Meyer, owner of Jangle (aka Hannah):

I have remained quiet for long enough…. While I find it unproductive to participate in a ā€œHe said/She saidā€ debate on a public bulletin board, I do want to express some thoughts on the subject of the Kate Ostermeier Situation.

I am one of the mare owners… maybe the luckiest mare owner….as my mare weathered the storm better than most. My mare is Hannah… Let me be the first to tell you Mr Wosenko, that as good as my mare looked on the OUTSIDE in comparison to the others, not all was as it seemed on the inside. She was heavily loaded with worms, almost DOUBLE what is considered HIGH RISK. When I had her removed, she was placed in a clinic in Lexington. To the best of my knowledge, she had received no pre-natal vaccines during her pregnancy, never ultra sounded for twins, and had no routine farrier care. While that may not be a problem for you, it is for me. I was raised to be a Horsemen. Tried and true. I take my Stewardship of these AMAZING animals very seriously. They survive and prosper because of the care that we give them. The pedigrees continue because we cherish who they are and where they came from. I have a vision for future generations of our sport to promote and provide them with the best possible vehicles to obtain the highest standards of competition in our Industry. These animals are not to be taken for granted and thrown away like a dirty shirt. They are to be cherished, and appreciated and cared for. They do not ask for much in return. I must admit I found your posts to be callous, uncaring and disrespectful towards those who mares and owners who have suffered so much. I guess that is the difference between you and me. I openly admit that I am no one important in this Industry. I am just someone who has always believed and will continue to believe, that no matter what THE HORSE COMES FIRST!

Best Regards, and I wish you the very best with Poppy and her foal.

It was discovered today that KO has an open bench warrant, outstanding, for ā€œfailure to appear,ā€ which had gotten somewhat lost between 2 counties…Scott and Woodford. This is ā€œa warrant issued by a sitting judge for an individual who has missed a court appearance and is considered a flight risk.ā€ The defendant must appear before this judge and cannot bond out. This has been rectified. Looks like there will be another update soon.

is the bench warrant related to the case involving the animals?

Hello COTHers,
I’m looking for an equine lawyer in the Lexington, KY area. I prefer someone with their own practice, or who has sport-horse ties rather than a TB specialist. Please PM recommendations via COTH or FB, I’ll happily accept new friend requests. My hope that KATE would make the kind and moral choice on her own seems to have been in vain. I need help.

Thankyou everyone, for all of your support!!!
Wendy Liopiros

So sorry it has to come to getting a lawyer, Wendy. We were all hoping that Kate would do the right thing by you. But, if she did the right thing, the horses would not be in the state they are in right now. Hope you find a great lawyer who can you back your girl.

Wendy, sent you an email.

Update: we have found out that at least two horses have died in Kate’s possession. Still working on getting more info.

Oh no. Any confirmation on which ones?

For now I know a horse named Tirot and a horse named Annie. Still gathering info. I believe there is a least one other one.

Just reeks of the Jill Burnell thing all over again…just heartbreaking and sad how these people get such a strong following! It really shows how the internet can create a false sense of knowing someone that leads to a trust that often gets exposed. And then they have defenders that are so blindly loyal. :frowning:

I know someone had suggested Rate My Horse Pro get involved…have they? http://www.ratemyhorsepro.com/
