Keeneland January

Any consignments any one is excited about or consigning themselves?

I noted that the 11yr old DRILL was being consigned as a Racing Prospect (not consigned as a racing/stallion prospect) (he entered stud in 2015 in FL and has been off the track for 5 yrs now). He was consigned as hip 1539 but has been withdrawn of the sale already. . Seems a bit scary to consign an 11 yr old stallion as a racing prospect only after 5 yrs off the track. Looks like a nice horse, maybe he will find a 2nd career with someone if they don’t want to stand him any longer.

Here is Drill:

Quite a few nice Tapit racing prospects consigned. I don’t have time to list them all here. Shadwell has consigned quite a few of them

Hoping to be there for the last two days of the sale. Woodbine has introduced a program for us, offering up to $5500. towards the purchase of race horses.

In order to meet the conditions, the horse has to have run for at least a 25k tag, have had a start since October 1, of 2019, and has never run, or been stabled at Woodbine.

Woodbine will pay $1k towards trailering costs, and for each start the horse makes, up to three, during the first two months of our season, they will pay us $1500.

Spent the last week going through the catalogue and PPs to pick out the eligible horses, then gave all the info to my trainer so he can narrow down the list from the 30 that I found.

That’s an interesting incentive. I see that the Woodbine 2020 meet opens on April 18th. Do you have to be stabled (and training) there in the meantime, or can someone ship in right before the meet and still be eligible?

Creative.

You reeallllyyyy think someone wants to buy this horse to race? So what tracks allow 11 year olds to race? Many tracks now have protocols in place to thoroughly evaluate a horse that has not run in a while. I think you are looking, once again, to portray racing in a negative light on a public bb when pretty obviously this horse was not entered in the sale as an intended racing prospect.

that actually sounds really fun!!!

Palm Beach; I am just going off of what the horse was being offered as… a racing prospect only. He was not offered as a stallion or a racing prospect and/or stallion prospect. He was withdrawn from the sale though, and appears to still be in Florida. Look at the catalog online and you can see what he was listed as.

Shadwell seems to have a number of nice consignments in the later books. 2015 models with decent performances thus far on the track.

The entry of that horse as a racing prospect did not strike me as anything other than a mistake.

perhaps it was. maybe it wasn’t. we shall never know.

I don’t think there is a racing secretary that would accept that horse’s entry. I’d bet good money the owners did not intend to sell him as a racing prospect, and I’m not much of a gambler.

Trainer has to have been stabled for three (I think that is the right number) consecutive months at Woodbine in the 2019 season. And has to have applied for stalls for 2020.

The Woodbine thing is very interesting indeed. It’s great to hear they are doing something creative like that.

As for the OP’s original question - I have my eye on a few broodmares I know I can’t afford! But, I don’t think that really counts for anything. It’ll be fun to watch and see how they sell though. Looking forward to following this sale.

Years ago. there was a nice sale in Kentucky called Tattersalls, for American Saddlebreds. If you entered your horse in the sale, you were guaranteed to have every single person who was looking for a horse, and even those who weren’t, see that horse in the catalog. Even if you pulled your horse out of the sale after the catalog was printed, and sent out, it only cost you a couple of hundred dollars. LOTS of advertising, for almost no money.

That’s what I see here.

Thank you, @mht !

You’re welcome!

And good luck with your shopping! I hope you find something wonderful.
