Kentucky 2025

Is Defender not the title sponsor this year? That’s how it’s been referred to on broadcasts all weekend. It’s no longer the Rolex Kentucky 3 day.

yes but there are a lot of other sponsors of the event also!

Well aware, and not the point I was trying to make. Moving on…

The Star Trek theme playing during the awards :joy::joy::joy:

I suppose it sounds celebratory and is easy to loop.

It was added by the same person who started that thread, and it’s in the comments below this post.

The video looks… not good. The gasps from the crowd pretty well tell the tale.

I just saw that Tim Price withdrew Falco from the 2nd horse inspection (or did not pass?).
I don’t have access to a livestream, does anybody know what happened?

I’ve seen several screenshots that show hindquarters and shoulder on the ground at the same moment, so I’d agree. Maybe it’s time for instant replays a la pro football.

Regardless of the technical rules, IMO very poor horsemanship to just kick on and gallop off when your horse has literally just slid his body across the ground and dragged his face hard enough to have grass stains. And then to have nearly the same thing reoccur at the water, and to still not pull up? Or be pulled up?

He presented him and was sent to the hold box, and then did not come back afterwards to try again. So it was scored as withdrawn, I guess.

I have to say it always makes me nervous when they give out glass prizes for any sort of horse activity. It just seems like you’re begging for a disaster.

I may still have bad flashbacks to the time many years ago when I was working for somebody who won a giant crystal punch bowl with about 24 glasses to go with it. And we had to figure out how to get them all home from the show without breaking any of them. Lol.

This awards ceremony feels moderately awkward… is it just me? The grooms awards felt like a throw-away, the best dressed award made me cringe, and then the handing off (and taking back) of multiple award items to Will - it all felt clunky to me. I did have to smile at the Liz H award (and Boyd trying to find the right spot to stand while waiting to hand it off). I also appreciated Will’s little wave and smile at someone during the anthem – and I also really appreciated him putting his helmet back on and buckling it up before the honour round.

He almost fell a few other times as well and there’s already posts all over FB

For anyone who missed it, they said the coverage would resume with the five star show jumping at 2:15 PM Eastern.

I’m not defending Calvin’s decision to continue or the officials for not pulling him up. What I’m saying is that only his hip touched the ground, which does not meet the definition of a horse fall per the FEI rules. Though I think that rule was put in place more so for the situation of Karen O’Connor’s epic gymnastics after her horse slipped than Phantom literally lying on his stomach, which could have happened without his hip touching the ground too.

Ultimately, it’s up to the officials and membership to bring rule changes to bear. Maybe this will lead to a change in the horse fall rule.

I also noticed on the official schedule that “first group” will start at 2:30, and “second group” at 3:00. So they’ll have 3 jump and then wait 20 minutes for the next group? Or maybe split 11 first then top 12

Dragging the ring?

I think that’s a possibility, but I’m not sure how they’d word it.

is the jump order posted anywhere?

I would think it would make more sense to split them evenly if they want to do it in two groups.

I did see these spots in the order posted on Facebook.

TBH me neither. This is the rule as it’s currently written:

549.5.2 Horse
A Horse is considered to have fallen when, at the same time, both its shoulder and quarters have
touched either the ground or the obstacle and the ground or when it is trapped in a fence in such
a way that it is unable to proceed without assistance or is liable to injure itself.

Maybe they could add in “or stomach” after “shoulder and quarters”, but it would most likely require a rewrite of the whole rule.
