Peter Wilde interview. Is it after Boyd’s round with Connor?on clipmyhorse? I was at the park so would like to watch it. I have a clip my horse subscription.thanks

Updating as there were many treating vets across the course, though not required by rule book to man each jump. <So this is untrue. There is a ground jury and a few official event vets. These vets are at the vet box. There may be other vets at the venue to help their riders in post care but not manning jumps. >

On course you have your volunteer jump judges and the cameras. Back at vet box there is a tent (for this event, not lower FEI levels) with several tvs and multiple course view points mostly with riders in front row. My understanding is that the entire ground jury stays at start/finish , they’re not even riding around to see certain combinations .

Now if there were a fall and/or call to come there’s vehicles to take the appropriate person to meet a fallen rider ASAP , but this is why even if you are eliminated on course you must take your horse to vet box to be evaluated.

I do lean on side our officials are doing their very best to keep a safe horse and rider . But no there are not vets at jumps.

I think it was after Boyd went on his first horse today, although I won’t swear to it.

I think they said something on the live stream today about somebody who heard there was a fall yesterday and was on his way to the jump in his golf cart when he saw the horse and rider in question galloping past him on their way to the next jump.

I know exactly what you’re referring to. It was on the stream during his show-jumping, but I can’t remember who/what position the person who said this was. Semantics I also can’t remember if he said he heard of a fall, was heading that way, before the pair passed him.

I just went back and watched it, and he said it was not the course designer but the course builder. Mick somebody? Costello, maybe?

That would make sense as he would be out on course doing repairs than the other members of ground jury.

It would be nice to have an article for the eventing community that may not be actively competing FEI to narrate who and what the officials do. Your ground jury is made up of a group, likely smaller than you expect. As a rider you see their faces traveling to events and can see their own limitations based on the rules and size of an event but also hopefully see their own dedication to the sport. For anyone not riding FEI understandably they’re strangers who could or could not care for a horse.

Yes, maybe he was on his way there to check on the condition of the jump.

Because I was hoping he’d win. If you came in second that’s great but you didn’t win. I’m entitled to my dreams :slightly_smiling_face: It’s like the KY Derby, most people don’t remember the ‘also rans’.

It was actually about 23 minutes into the first section of the five star, as Arden Wildasin was getting ready to start on Sunday Times.

Ask Sham about that.

:joy: Did you have to look that one up? Of course there are always outliers and I did say “most people”. But I’ll leave you to die on this hill you’re fighting while I go on dreaming of the day Boyd is on the top of the podium.

I probably want that as much as you. Maybe more so. I ache for Boyd to win, but 11 points against Michi? Aint no way. And btw, I remember Sham. I am so bad at picking winners in horse racing I can’t pick a winner in a two horse race. Sham ran second to Secretariat. Of course, I was on Sham.

When I saw that Michi was entered with Cipmunk, I thought it was pretty much a foregone conclusion that he was going to win. II guess we still had to have the competition to make sure because sometimes lightning does strike - but not very often. I am thrilled that Boyd got onto the podium in 2nd and overall had such a great Kentucky.

There’s a vet at every jump. Occasionally it’s a group of jumps in the same area, but there are no less than 15 vets on course just watching jumps. And they have their own radio channel

Edited to add: sitting in their cars/trucks with any supplies needed and to radio in any horses to the ground jury that may be injured/blood/need pulled up.

I beg your pardon?

I was agreeing with you. The horse would have won 2/3 of the Triple Crown in a different year that didn’t have Secretariat in it.

And no, I did not need to look it up.

This press conference after the five star includes a remark from Boyd Martin about what he thought his chances were of winning today.

The press conference does not start until a few minutes into the video.

Shouldn’t we throw in Alydar while we’re at it?

There’s a thread on reddit about Phantom’s fall and I am actually pleasantly surprised that there appears to be some amount of nuance in the thread, including several people in the thread who said there were there in person to see the skid/slip/not-quite-fall and said the rider stayed balance and out of Phantom’s way and absolutely did not urge or kick him on. In fact they thought that once Phantom got his balance back and was ready to gallop again, the rider held him a bit, presumably to check to make sure he did feel sound.

Whether that’s true or not, I don’t know. But it does seem like a reasonable reaction to me, though a more cautious reaction would have been to pull him up and trot a little bit, especially since that was the last element at that complex and they had a decent distance before the next jump. But, I think, overall, I’m okay with Phantom continuing on as he did.
