This would work this year, not sure every year. One GJ can only judge a max of 50 tests in one day, per FEI rule book.
When she said that, I almost wondered if there were going to be indirect repercussions. Because while I 100% understood her sentiment, especially as someone who as owned a lot of warhorse TBs that would never pass a vetting, her words could also be misinterpreted or bring extra scrutiny on her.
After reading her description of the horse in that article, I remember thinking that he didn’t sound like a happy horse and maybe it would be best to let him retire from the big events. Not my horse though…
At the risk of looking like a fool later when the real reason (maybe) comes out, I honestly couldn’t see anything super obvious on either RF or LF for that matter. And it seems like there was only one person in the livestream comments who said anything about RF but ??? He did look flat and a little stiff in general, especially compared to the others, and I noticed when jogging away during re-presenting he had his hips off to one side. But again, who knows??
Right?? I saw her a year or two ago in the 4* and I’m thrilled she’s in the 5* this year!
Has the Land rover Kentucky site ever posted the dressage tests I cannot seem to find them.
I certainly don’t believe that or think that, but I also understand why people may think that from those words. Without context, it is easy to say he sounds unhappy from her description.
In a world where soundbites and snippets are frequently misinterpreted and misrepresented, that’s the type of quote that can come back to haunt you. Even though she said it elation, trying to show what a super horse he is, especially in this era where you will lose a sale on a W/T horse because of a shadow of an imperfection on an xray.

I re-read the article and still don’t feel that I was off the mark.
It sounds as if the horse tried his best to show how uncomfortable he was.
•" After getting kicked out of Elizabeth Merryman’s training barn for dropping all her exercise riders, and in one case, throwing himself and the rider on the ground, Comic began his event horse training at Dutton’s True Prospect Farm. When Brannigan left True Prospect to start her own business, Nina supported her by sending all her young horses to her."
" • As an emotional Brannigan noted when she came off cross-country at Kentucky this year after a clean, fast round with the gelding, Comic could be the poster child for the adage, “You don’t ride the x-rays.”
“He has proper kissing spine right where the saddle goes,” she noted.
In 2017 he received the Holekamp/Turner Young Event Horse Le Lion d’Angers Grant and was slated to compete in the FEI World Breeding Eventing Championships at Le Lion d’Angers (France) but didn’t make the trip.
Instead he had a year of stall rest due to a “hot leg.”
"He’s a horse you get on every day and appreciate how hard he tries,” she added. “People don’t buy horses for so many silly reasons; I just want to say, ‘You should see my five-star horse’s back! ”
Terrible radio-graphs along with extreme (apparently lifelong) behavioral objections by the horse to being ridden in competition, if at all, doesn’t seem to me to be something to brag about a horse tolerating and being a trier. He’s struggled while being ridden by professionals for most of his life. He’s done “well” in spite of it all (until the ground jury and then the vet and then the ground jury again today, found he was not sound to compete.)
I can only imagine how difficult it must be to say “when” but it shouldn’t have to be the ground jury and the vet that says no to your horse being run in a 5* event.
Well 14 hours, two flat tires, and a broken hotel fridge later….we made it to Lex 🫠
We didn’t watch the jog stream and tbh I’m too pooped to watch the replay. Other than Jennie’s horse not passing, did anything notable/exciting happen?
a couple did airs above ground, but most looked sleepy to me, more like a Sunday morning jog instead of a Wednesday one.
enjoy your trip! Kentucky is magical.
When you 're downtown Lexington - drive east on Main St to Midland Ave to see the Full size racing sculptures at Thoroughbred Park. Every detail is amazing. As my kids loudly announced some 30 yrs ago they’ve even got butt holes.
AS well as the Secretariat sculpture on the west side on the rotary on Old Frankfort Pike
.
Day 1 here we go!
After yesterday, I’m 0% adventurous and just want to get to KHP and relax I’ve been here a bunch of times so I’ve seen the things, looking forward to having a more peaceful day today.
I am hopefully optimistic that I can make the Fan Membership live stream work this year, without needing the kind helpful people at USEF to hand walk me through the process (again).
Welp, I am already having issues with USEF network and my fan membership. I did not have issues last year but now am stuck in a loop trying to log in! Hoping to catch my hometown girl Ali Kuhn at 10
me too.
I have logged into USEF, followed the link to watch CMH via USEF, see the “Watch Live” icon, but after the advertisement, I keep being prompted to “become a member”
