Yep, the NBC leadup commentary is geared so far towards the watchers who know nothing about horse racing.
Did anyone see the lead ‘pony’ that looked like a cross between an appy and a draft? Ponying a horse in the ?Woodward? on turf.

I know zero about horse racing, but my bet is on Materiality. My long shot bet is on War Story.
Any one know why Ramsey scratched his horses for today’s card that are trained by Chad Brown?
I know he’s a long shot, but I’m cheering for Far Right today.
Hello, everybody! Hope it’s a great race. Just got home and tuned in.
Seeing fit, shiny TBs…ahhhhh!!!
Is it just me, though, or does the cast of thousands now attending the walk-over look absolutely ridiculous? As do the dolled-up reporters, too, of course. Nothing classy about any of them, but the walk-over…you could hardly see the horses.
I’m pulling for Dortmund. I think he’s a pretty game colt and I like the story of his owner, Kaleem Shah.
I hate to jinx him but I timidly like Upstart. I say timidly because I can’t pick a winner in a two horse race.

I think I heard them say something like they are limiting the entourages to 18 people each, and that’s not counting barn staff. That’s a lot of people! It should be something more like 6.
And yes, I had to look hard to see horses in that crowd!
Call just in, “riders up!”

Although not all of Ramsey’s horse were scratch today, Reach For a Kitten, Luck of the Kitten, and Thank You Marylou are still ran/running.
…sounds like sour grapes & a bunch of whining by Ramsey.

Ugh. 18 + barn staff? EIGHTEEN? Geez. I guess this is the way you get non-horse people interested but it’s almost like the Derby is a big joke now. Ice skaters? My god.
Ok, I’m done kvetching. Beautiful horses shall be the focus! SAFE TRIP, EVERYONE!
Wasn’t there a horse a few years ago that had a group of like 30 owners? Guess they had to draw the line somewhere.
Tara and Johnny. You just have to think of them like clowns for people who like to be entertained by clowns.
And SAFE TRIP ALL.
Anyone else like Carpe Diem? He’s my pick.
AP wins
well that was not a money maker but all nice colts
Pharaoh! Great race!
I loved the race. Victor Espinoza was so excited, and American Pharoah looks so calm. I love Gary Stevens came back from a knee replacement to finish second. I love how happy the Zayat family are, after a bunch of second places.
I didn’t have a pick, no one stood out enough.
Dortmund came out of the saddling stall stiff looking and warmed up slowly.
I wonder how he would run, but did ok, just was outrun.
Still no one really was standing out by the time it was over.
Good race, front runners seemed closely matched.
Well that answers that…lol
Nice race from Firing Line too…
No to be a downer, but what are the whip rules in US racing? Espinoza was belaboring American Pharoah pretty darned hard all along.
It was a good race, but a very slow one. Which proves that it’s the competition, not the time, that makes a race fun for the watchers.
