Kentucky Derby 2022

He must be a handful. Brief shot of the groom leading him off, and he was still rank.

Certainly did not seem tired at all.

Exactly

Never fails…. A big race comes along & all of a sudden posters that don’t typically interact on the racing threads, become experts in anything to do with racing & the horses  :woman_facepalming:t2:

WOW, aside from the attempt to savage the pony horse, that was amazing! I would like to see the full race again as he wasn’t on my radar.

His win certainly shook up the Triple Crown series. Sometimes it’s fun to have a surprise.

I am going to ask a question, sorry I am not regularly into racing.

I assume that the pony rider’s includes not letting go unless there is a dire situation? Is that correct?
To me it seems like letting go puts more people and animals at risk.

Did you see the aerial of the race showing him making his way up? He took off like a rocket!

The announcers just ignored him until all the sudden there he was!

On one view it looked like he wanted a piece of Epicenter as well!

That’s right, just before he took the lead.

Was that the horse he was side eyeing as he was passing him towards the end?

He sure looked like he would do well at longer distances.
It will interesting to see how the rest of his year shapes up.

Rich Strike’s groom was happy and proud. It was nice to see him loving on the horse so much.

Haven’t found a non FB replay yet.
But here is this one

He’s got Smart Strike pretty close up, top and bottom.

He kissed his neck at one point.
Did anyone pay much attention to him at the post? Was he after his pony then?
It looks like maybe he only likes his “people” and ponies.

Someone always thinks they would do better if a jacked up colt was trying to savage them and their horse.

Yeah, but the Derby track is more crowded than your average track, 21 racehorses plus outsiders, media people, etc. Galloping back may not have been an option. I did wonder why the outsider horses weren’t equipped with the bite guards like many of the pony horses wear.
