Kentucky Three Day Event 2024

From the US perspective- Coleman, Liz, & Boyd have been incredible this weekend with all of their horses. I just feel like they’re starting to separate themselves… and it shows on the leaderboards here and elsewhere.

The Brits look great as always, but maybe not as flawless as a lot of people expected- as a fan, I’m kind of salivating at what the 5* could have been like if it wasn’t an Olympic year (but I totally get it).

Two Cooley 10 year-old’s were the standouts for me in the 5*. Oliver & Liz should be pretty excited.

ETA: Jennie Brannigan was INCREDIBLE today.

She was right in front of me as she fell. I have a video of the whole incident, because she was one of the riders I was most excited to see ride. Carsontown, hung a leg and she just popped right out of the tack. Absolutely no chance of making a save. She landed straight on her outstretched leg. Took a good while for her to get up. She was grimacing really badly and had to lean on someone (Lucinda Green) to go anywhere. Hopefully nothing is seriously wrong.

Hey @zack_from_usef , not a question about membership (I’m a paying CMH member as well as USEF member), but just some feedback for USEFnetwork/CMH:

-The production has been amazing this weekend - catches all the right things, super professional, and just so much better than last year. Well done to the cameras and crew
-The inability to pause/rewind live coverage is incredibly frustrating. That’s like basic table stakes for any streaming service these days. USEFnetwork used to have that capability before CMH, as does the company that does the WEF GP live streams.
-The constant and long commercials every time I have to reload the feed (which is somewhat frequent given my obsessive closing of tabs, and/or attempting to pause as noted above and then the feed freezing) is also super annoying. Made worse because, as noted above, you can’t rewind to catch what you missed while the commercial was playing.

Sorry to make this a semi-customer-service post to whoever was complaining, but seems relevant feedback for the event.

What a day! I was soooo busy and I’m not sure I can walk. But I had a fabulous time, albeit a little too “exciting” at some points. I will definitely be back volunteering again next year!

Does anyone know why Zach Brandt and Direct Advance were eliminated after appearing to finish? That horse looked beat in the second half and did not love seeing him pony kick an exhausted horse home…

maybe ground jury did not love seeing him push such a clearly worn out horse? i wonder if they saw something viewers/commentary missed on the livestream

I was just going to ask the same question about Zachary Brandt.

Doug Payne should have pulled up earlier. I was at the Normandy bank when he jumped it. The horse barely made it up onto the bank…but Doug kept going for several fences after.

Mia and Phelps are proving to be up there too!

Anyone watching the GP? Super scary with Rowan’s horse running over a jump guy and then jumping out of the ring after Rowan’s fall. They just said everyone is okay. Didn’t think one of the scariest moments of cross country day would be in the GP!

Interesting the fence analysis has him all clear….but results show eliminated

That was our group’s speculation as well but wasn’t sure if there was an explanation somewhere. A good way to teach a horse welfare lesson if that’s the case!

The scariest thing I’ve seen in a GP. I thought she was going to jump into the stands. They said the jump crew member and horse were ok but horse is being attended to by the vet. :crossed_fingers:

Doug pulled up after the Normandy Bank (Fence 20) before fence 21.

Carrots (Blue Movie) is super super sensitive. She had an incident last year when one of her boots came loose and she basically bolted out of the arena at the end of her round. I think the bridle dragging behind her totally freaked her out. Really hoping the jump crew member and Carrots are both OK :crossed_fingers:

Incredibly impressive, but the Olympics isn’t going to be their competition.

They are a very special pair and a very special story for the sport - I hope she goes to Burghley. Thoroughbreds had a very good day today

It was absolutely terrifying to see she was in a blind panic. Does anyone know how far after she jumped out of the ring she got before getting caught. They said nothing we just saw her jump out and gallop away. They said the ground crew member will be ok but tbh with an EMT husband they won’t know until a full evaluation at the hospital. Adrenaline can mask a lot. They efficiently got him on a back board and out for further care.

I’m guessing more will come to light if a card comes from it, but it certainly seems like some sort of horse welfare would be behind it. If you click on any of the other horse names who have XC penalties (whether that’s elimination, retirement, or just refusals), you can see the associated fence number. But he’s totally clear on the fences and even the announcers (to my knowledge) didn’t mention some sort of technical elimination etc after the fact.

There was a report of a horse going down in the vet box. Don’t know who.
