Back in Ye Olden Days of the USEF network on the website, there was usually a 12-24 hour delay before the replays were updated for the cross-country round, versus the dressage.
After yesterday and today, I can’t wait to keep watching Charlotte Jacobs on her chestnut!
Friend who is there on site said the mare was finally caught in the warm up area. Said it was absolutely terrifying to witness.
Doug could have stopped at the top of the bank. But he jumped the other elements of the Normandy bank. I could clearly see him try to jump the next fence
oh no!
OUCH! that was a hard fall - a very hard fall - amazing he made the second ride and did so well… a true gold medal champion…
Lots of Olympic medals on that sack…
Maryland Horse Trials has a 4^ in July (also 1*, 2* and 3*) and Morven Park has a 4* in October
It takes so much to run these events and sadly they dont draw many paying spectators - so mucb or so little there is no entry fee, only if you want to be part of the VIP tent group.
4* jumping starts at 10:30
The whole situation was so scary. He was face down and I hope they would have blocked him off from the crowd if they thought he was really really hurt. I still think with how fast they were able to conceal PD and Quasi Cool at the last fence they should not have made such a spectacle of it. I personally think they were much too blasé about the entire thing. Thank god the man who was hit was able to communicate with the EMTs when he was on the ground and as he was leaving. And so glad the mare was smart to join the other horses back in the warmup and didn’t try to exit into the crowd.
I cannot imagine being Rowan tonight. And knowing he had a tack malfunction and scary exit from the ring last year at this exact same event.
He was eliminated in the vet box after finishing clear. Horse was clearly exhausted but sound after later inspection.
The way they parked the utvs blocked him fully from anyone sitting in the main center section. Not sure the rest of the ring views. I hope he’s bruised but that’s it and gets a lot of support from the park to recover.
I was sitting in the first row in the above sections slightly right of center and could see everything well enough to understand what was being communicated between the man and the EMTs.
Wow! They should have blocked it better
On that 60 year old kind, generous, sack
wow, they aren’t messing around!
We where at the coffin when it happened. It was pretty scary! Honor me peaked over the A (rails stayed up though) and then 2nd guessed the ditch and ended up putting his front in in it before falling into the ditch. He struggled to get up, but more so due to the angle if the ground, but was pretty terrifying for me and others around. They walked off fine. His boot slid down and he was slightly favoring that leg, but I think due to the boot more than an injury.
From a transparency perspective, it’s extremely irritating when horse / rider falls are just recorded as “E” instead of MR or RF. I see that happen a lot at events in my area (yes, I am vocal about it to the TD when I am actually at the event and see it with my own eyes).
Not sure if it’s just the FEI way to put “E” instead of the actual reason for elimination. If it is, I think that’s stupid and lacks transparency.
I will pass this along to our USEF Network team. Thank you!
