Kentucky Three Day Event 2024

To see him hauling himself back onto the grey mare wasn’t great, he’s a very heavy looking rider, time to call it a day I think. Leslie Laws horse was never going round, he made the right decision to retire after she stopped at a smallish fence, been around long enough not to risk his neck forcing a horse.

Ariel. Where is the stop on the results. I see the 11 for the pin…but not the stop to make 31

What happened last year?

She had a run out at the straight route corner of the Head of the Lake.

It looks like Dyri has been withdrawn.

They do actually carry screens for show jumping as well as have a horse ambulance nearby if needed.

If Zach’s horse was eliminated for exhaustion at the end, then they should have gotten pulled up earlier. In my opinion a horse doesn’t go from “safely tired” to dangerously exhausted in one or two jumps.

I’m almost positive I saw a shoe fly off him early in the course…I want to say fence two or so. Edit—-front shoe. If there’s a replay you can also see shots in the gallop where you could only see three.

Glad to see it! Way to take zero accountability :upside_down_face: I hope someone has some hard convos with him in the offseason about whether “coming back in the fall” is really in the horses best interest.

Does anyone know if/where the jog is streaming this morning?

it is SUPPOSED to be streamed on FB. But I can never find it. On Wednesday, someone helpfully posted it here, so heres hoping they will do so again!

Oh wow.

While I do think Direct Advance looked tired, I’ve definitely seen wayyy more tired horses complete XC at other 5*s and in years past. Plus, they let him finish. They didn’t pull him up partway around which is what they need to be doing when they think there are exhausted horses. What good does it do to eliminate a horse after they finish when it could easily turn into another Phillip and Quasi, but possibly a worse ending?

Also thinking about Lillian and Barnaby’s elimination in dressage, I think it shows this ground jury is taking welfare much more seriously this year at KY and while yes, they both had legitimate reasons to be questioned, I think the GJ may be a little more stringent that prior years.

Completely agree. Then it would have somewhat saved the horse’s legs. Hopefully a yellow card will be issued. Hasn’t this pair had problems with fitness at the 4* and 5* levels in the past?

I was holding my breath for the last few combinations and especially the last jump, having seen what happened earlier with a tired Quasi Cool and also being reminded of Elisa Wallace. Clearly the rider was the only one in mind as evidenced by the Pony Club style kicking to get the horse over the finish line and then the celebratory cheers from the support team once they were done.
