I think sometimes the riders do give the leases to the grooms, owners etc whoever needs it.
Thank you for the info on Katie Malensek’s bitting situation. Hard to understand how she was assessed this harsh penalty when other riders apparently were able to complete the competition in the same gear. Also wondering why an E rather than a TE. Is this what happens to a true amateur that shows up without a big time posse and heavy hitting connections? What a shame.
just saw a picture (from this mornings jog I think) of Cooley Rosalent with nasty looking spur rubs
She may have been OK if she had the reins through the large ring. The FEI also says that unless it says it’s OK in their FEI Tack app,or the FEI Tack Equipment and Dress Database, then it’s illegal.
This is OK;
If she was using it in that manner she’s in a no win situation with the FEI.
“Reins must be attached to the bit or bridle” is a pretty standard rule.
Where would the reins attach to the contraption in the facebook photo? It doesn’t seem to have rings like the one in the rule book photo.
Odd that CMH TV doesn’t have English commentary for any cross country. I don’t know any other language but English so I’m pretending I’m deaf.
This would not surprise me.
But if hers is like the lower picture, the reins are attached to the bit, unless I’m completely missing something.
That bit looks like it is very similar to a Pessoa/3-ring elevator, just with nose pressure as well? But in those pictures the bit is clearly attached to the bridle and the reins to the bit??
From reading what Facebook is available to me, apparently whatever she used “altered the function of the bit” and that is what the FEI is complaining about? She used a leather strap and not the rope one that it came with?
It’s a myler combination bit. As you say, A three ring with nose pressure. It’s sold exactly as shown, and the reins attach to the bit as shown above. Unless she modified it in some way, which I don’t see why you would.
I’m late to the party, but… That happened years ago, said rider issued an apology, it hasn’t happened since, and now she’s quick to throw in the towel and retire if it’s in the best interest of the horse. I wouldn’t say anything is ‘wrong’ with her specifically because she learned from it, so I don’t think it’s fair to continue holding it over her head and shame her for it. Just my 2 cents.
I’m not saying anything about Zach because I don’t know him well enough.
Then it must be the leather strap as shown in the facebook photo.
Wow they are nitpicking if that’s the case.
It sounds like they told her it was the rope that literally the bit was sold with that was modifying how the bit functioned and she specifically notes she did not modify it and others had also been using the same combo in the competition but she didn’t want to harm them by calling attention to them.
didn’t someone show up in dressage with a wrong bridle, and someone caught it and gave her a different bridle that she had never used? And it was said that that wouldn’t be checked till AFTER the test, when she would have been rung out for having an illgal bit or bridle?
If we’re talking about this weekend, I think you mean Lisa Barry. And not only that, she was allowed to have a later dressage time due to the bridle issue. Talk about salt in the wound.
I get it (the bit situation) now. I can be pretty dense sometimes.
I still think they’re nitpicking.
