Kentucky Three Day Event 2024

MB competed at the end of June 23 and then again the end of March 24. For older horse (18), who has competed for years, that is a big red flag for soundness. MB wouldn’t be my choice at this point.

I have no “insider” info, but just from what is publicly available:

Tami has spoken about how hard losing California was for her and how difficult it was to find her drive in the aftermath. Lexus (MB) competed at jumper shows over the winter months. She posted on her socials that Lexus tweaked something being a horse and getting loose and is fine, it just wasn’t good timing with having to ship cross country. So from a social media perspective, nothing seems worrisome… that’s just life.

I’m not letting my mind go there. I selfishly want to see all the best horses there to battle it out, and he’s one of the best of the best. Of course I want this so bad for Tamie too.

She has also been focusing a lot on dressage. He probably doesn’t need too many runs at this point.

So when would selector get to see him in competition? Eventing starts 7/26 in Paris which is not far off. From May 1 to July 1 in California there are only 2 Advanced Horse trials. Seeing a horse that has only competed twice in a year, would one of those be enough to make you pick them?

To me the answer is no. I’d see who the top american horses were coming out of Kentucky and Badminton and how they did. That would be my first cut. We tend to forget about the riders that are based overseas. Tiana Coudray, Grace Taylor and Cosby Green are all entered in Badminton and have been based in England. So they have been consistently going against top competition on a regular basis. If they have a good Badminton and the horse comes out good, I’m looking at them. They have the advantage of not needing the big trip over the pond to get to Paris.

ETA: Alexandra Knowles and Meaghan O’donaghue are also entered at Badminton.

Disclaimer- I’m no selector.

A few solid events for Tamie in the spring would be enough for me to send them. We know that horse can deliver. That being said I have no inside info on soundness etc.

I would not send a horse who isn’t sound 100%. If he’s just gotten a boo boo from running around like a fool then yes, he’s on the plane for me. He’s got what it takes to get an individual medal.

The only thing about Badminton is that it is a 5* and the Olympics aren’t. Which is why MB was entered in the 4* My guess is the horses shooting for the O team are on the 4* list, and I don’t think there is a comparable one at Badminton.

MB’s injury is a bit of a bummer. Hopefully it’s just a little tweak that will be sorted out in a couple days. This is my first time going out to Kentucky, and I was really looking forward to seeing him run. I do admire Tamie’s decision, it must have been pretty disappointing. I just hope I get to see him in person before he retires. Maybe he’ll go to Maryland (fingers crossed).

Last year both jogs were live-streamed on Facebook, FWIW.

Am I blind? I’m looking for an alphabetic list of vendors.

vendor list: the only list I saw is by booth location number

Hi all! This is my first year going as an adult - it’s been about 20 years since I last went to Kentucky (as Rolex)!

I’d like to go watch morning breeze/workouts at Keeneland one day. What time does that happen/can you just show up?

I got preferred parking because I wanted to make it easier on my mom who is joining me. How far is it from the actual event? The drawn map that they shipped isn’t super helpful, and I’m trying to figure out what backpack to bring for shopping/carrying stuff. If it’s close I’ll just put stuff in the car.

I signed up for the RideIQ course walk. Are there any other cool things I should plan on or make sure to add to my agenda?

TIA!

I am not sure that you can go back and forth to the car…once you have gone through the gate and had your ticket scanned.
In previous years…that has not been possible.
It is not a long walk from preferred parking to the Rolex stadium…
and there is a charity where you can leave stuff for the day for a small donation.

ah, that seems silly! I guess no taking a long lunch elsewhere  good to know regarding storage though, that will work fine.
thank you!

I haven’t been last 3 years or so, but prior to that, you could always go drop things at the car and come back in. Preferred parking is worth it in my opinion!

We were able to go back and forth to our vehicle to drop off goodies. I think they stamped hand or something. But also we were just dropping things and typically the same person was letting us out and in and being sooo quick, they didn’t give us any issues.

I’m pretty sure there is a place you can stash your bags for the day, like a bag babysitter type thing.
