KY Horse Park rain delay 8/17/24

Anyone at the USHJA derby finals? Any idea if they intend to resume the class today.?

I thought, since they started looping the short videos again on the broadcast, they might be getting ready to resume.

Somebody posted a video from there on Facebook, and it looks pretty darn gross.

I don’t know what they will do, but it looks like they really got hammered by the weather.

Anybody who has a horse that came from an eventing background might have a huge advantage. Lol.

Now they’re saying 25 minutes and showing the arena, which looks pretty unscathed.

Time to do the laundry.

That’s what I was hoping, but it’s been going on for hours now. If you take a took at the current shots of the jumper and kids hunter ring, they seem to have standing water AND a message… “delay due to weather”. I tried calling KHP but no one answered at ANY extension. And their Facebook page, as well as the USHJA’s are silent. SMH.

There’s a countdown clock in the corner of the screen that’s on about 22 minutes right now that says Hunter Derby Championship, and there are tractors dragging the ring. So it seems like they’re planning to get fired up again before long.

Plus the show management system website schedule still shows a Grand Prix class that’s supposed to start in that ring at 7 o’clock tonight with almost 30 in it.

So to make that all work, I don’t think they could delay much longer, even though there are only 11 left in the handy round.

It seems a little ironic that they were saying on the live stream earlier that the class had changed to the daytime this year instead of a night class so that everybody would show under the same conditions in broad daylight. It does not seem like the horse show gods agreed with that approach.

Oh wow! A few minutes ago, I switched around to the Walnut and the Stonelea, I think, rings on CMH and it looked like blue skies and sunshine though the streams were noting that same weather delay message.

200% this.

Related, I saw some video on FB that was from (I want to say) the Sussex County Fair in NJ. Night class, looked like a derby, with the midway in full, flaming swing in the background. It made Devon look like quiet hours! I thought, you wanna talk about an even playing field… god bless each and every horse marching around there without a blink.

It’s really remarkable how good the footing looks now. The video I saw from earlier this afternoon looked like mud soup out there.

The newer footing is really good that way, but it’s still amazing to see.

I’m just following the scores online… what happened to Lafitte and Amanda Steege in the second round? The scores are really weird - 80, 94.5, and 80 from the three judges. It’s quite a difference and I wondered if anyone saw it and can speak to it.

Had a really nice round. Huge cheer from the crowd when he landed after the last jump causing a big spook, lead swap, etc. Very sad.

Wow that stinks!

They had an amazing round and when the crowd went wild after the last fence, the horse spooked, swapped leads with head in the air, and boom: they lose derby finals. How about a re-do of the closing circle judges? Thanks to pony medal finals, there’s precendent for that.

I’m heartbroken for Amanda Steege and her team - that horse has been one of my all time favorites since he came on the scene and that was a winning round until the crowd noise.

That was such a shame. He jumped beautifully all the way around, and then when he landed after the last jump and the crowd started cheering, he did a little spook/scoot and swapped his lead.

With all those jumps in the ring, it’s quite possible one panel did not even see it, which would explain the one high score.

In my mind, I believe that panel disregarded the spook and judged the round as it was. That’s what I would have done, especially after the pony medal do-over (yes, I’m unreasonably angry about that, and I’m not even a judge of the local gaming stable competions, so no need to tell me why I’m wrong lol).

It could go either way.

Congrats to all the winners. Lots of beautiful trips today!

I agree, and I thought I made that clear by the rest of my post that you didn’t quote. These things happen when you participate in a sport that is judged subjectively.

Thanks for pointing this out because I absolutely agree but forgot to say so in my disappointment.

Drama is an understatement.

Now that someone else has said it out loud…

Was thinking the same.
