After what happened to von Eckermann and King Edward in Paris, nothing is outside the realm of possibility. And who could have guessed Laskano would have 2 stops?
The King Edward thing at the Olypmics was completely different than what we are discussing here. Laskanoâs first stop was rider error, and my opinion is that the second one was just loss of confidence because of the first stop. Also completely different than Lafitteâs situation. But again, I am no pro so my opinion is worth nothing.
Kidâs pony spooked right before the last line of the first round because of something that happened outside the ring. Judges let the kid re-ride the last line; kid won the final. Oh, and kid is well connected in the industry.
Thank you! Long time lurker lol
Come on in! The waterâs fine. Lol.
Ah gotcha. Had something similar happen at a schooling show before but on this level I think would definitely ruffle some feathers. Canât say Iâd be delighted as the other kids/parents/trainers
This video on Facebook shows the weather in Kentucky this afternoon between the first 20 horses in the order and the last 10. I think the setting is public.
Of course they were all completely different. My point was that the unexpected can always occur.
Amanda should get a re-ride no?
Yikes!!!
Right??
Apparently one whole spectator tent next to the ring blew down/away.

Jack Towell, Boydâs father and trainer at Finally Farm in Camden, South Carolina, chimed in.
âHeâs kind of a âSea Biscuitâ kind of thing,â he said. âThe horse is too little. The trainerâs too fat. And he still [was second.]â

I really hope he is referring to himself here, and not his daughter.
I would say thatâs a safe bet. Iâm guessing in his mind he (Jack) is the trainer, and Liza is the rider.
I was there. That storm was scary. Local news said there was an 86mph gust recorded at the horse park. Almost nothing in or near the ring was still standing afterwards. Also 2 inches of rain fell in that one hour. I have a great video of one very strong guy righting the 30â flagpole all my himself!
Itâs time to do the golf thing and ask people to be quiet until the round is completed. These are animals. The unpredictable nature of a sudden roar of a crowd isnât a fair element.
I was there live, and it was not just a little spook/scoot - it took several strides for Amanda to get him back under wraps and given where it happened and where the judges were sitting, it was not anything the high-scoring panel would have missed short of purposely looking down or closing their eyes! The second panel just exercised their discretion and stuck with what their score was going to be, but the other two panels did what they had done to other horses such as Hannah Isop and Red Ryder the day before and penalized the spook and swap. It was heartbreaking, as there was no doubt Lafitte was going to be the winner based on the cumulative totals, but it was too big of a reaction to be ignored IMO, unfortunately. Thankfully Cannon Creekâs round was stunning so it is not as though he is an undeserving winner, I just hate it for Amanda Steege and the horseâs connections because they had done everything the needed to for the win right up until that instant.
Strongly disagree. Horses all over the world perform just fine in front of an energetic crowd. Like, the Olympics, the KY derby, basically any reining class on any given weekend. We are perceived as pretentious enough as is without following golfâs lead.
This was not the general public. Everybody in that stadium is an educated horseperson. Let the horse land and let the poor rider get back in the tack before hootinâ & hollerinâ. Probably not a mistake they will make again.
I disagree. Numerous reasons. Part of publicly displaying skills is ignoring distractions and not excusing lack of focus. Is the roar of the crowd after a great round a big money, elite level event unpredictable?
If they were such an educated audience why didnât they hold their âwhoop whoopsâ until she was completely finished?
