Lainey and Frodo Thread

OH, that update brought tears to my eyes, I just want to hug that poor dear mother who is being so brave and strong, how heart wrenching for her.
I’m not religious but I an praying HARD now for them.

I wish I could reach through the web and give her mother a hug. It does sound like consistent positive steps, but man is it heart wrenching. I can’t imagine what they’re going through right now.

It was my understanding that immediately after the accident he had significant bleeding from his nose. I can only assume that there was enough blood accumulation in his nasal cavity that he was unable to breathe normally.

Just speculating, but I would imagine it was for the same reason they did it to Laine: a severe lung injury that was compromising his ability to breathe. The press release about the decision to euthanize the horse said that he had suffered a skull fracture and a severe lung injury, so that explanation would stand to reason.

but how would a trach compensate for a lung injury without a ventilator (I didn’t hear about him ventilated at the scene) - it would just avoid him breathing through his mouth/nostrils and use a hole in his throat to get air in and out.

If there was an upper airway obstruction due to swelling it may help. They can bag ventilate in the field vs ventilator. At least that’s how it would work in humans.

Jingles and hugs for all the needed strength for Laine, her mother, and those around them. What a difficult thing to have to go through. :frowning:

Someone who watched the live feed said they saw Lainey and Frodo both get up, she remounted and they both collapsed. True?

False. Frodo got up once, I believe, then went down again.

miles and miles away, but this morning, I ran every minute with Valerie.

If ever there was a meaning in “kick on” - you are the one who will find it…so glad you have running to sustain you, to quiet you. Bless you. You are not alone…

I really, really admire Lainey’s mom. Her updates are making me choke up. Come on Lainey, pull through!

Thanks, Horseloverz and Jturner for your explinations, they cleared up some of my questions while reading the blog.

UPdate-

sit quietly by my daughter’s bedside and begin to realize what the “roller coaster” ride is all about.
Laine is aggitated because she wants answers to questions that neither her mom or dad can understand. Her communication skills are crippled by a moraphine drip line and the incredible frustration in this 10 x 10 room is emotionally exhausting. So vivid the memory of tragedy paling the one of victory.
My one source of strength comes from a home page website where I know thousands of our friends are supporting us with prayers & love.
I feel it. I hold it. And I thank each and EVERY one of you for it. That “it” keeps me returning to her tiny room with a comforting smile.
Valerie

Who ever said that laine got up was totally TOTALLY wrong. That is the stuff that makes me nuts- speculation leads to even more rumors. Downright lies make me even MORE nuts. Good of you to check to make sure that things are totally on track…the best we can do.

Sorry- pet peeve of mine- huge one in fact!

memories

Time to re ride courses she rode in the past ;:replay the videotape in the brain; ;)That is how I kept my sanity during my first month:eek:s confined to bed , first intheICU later in the nursing home ( ugh!)reminders of those courses and emotions keep us going; You might jut say the names of certain courses or rides which were especially meaningful to her;)

I don’t know anything other than what was reported, but I’d imagine they put the trache tube in and bagged him, just as a human would have done when emergency assistance is needed.

Horse-loverz, great explanation! Please accept this nursing student’s thanks

No problem… Good luck in school!!! I loff my job and cannot imagine doing anything else.

I wish I oculd just hug her mom. What a strength she must have. I have the blog bookmarked, hope that I will have her strength if I ever need it.

The live feed switched away from Laine and Frodo right after the fall and focused on Karen. It was announced that that they were both up ~ we heard Nigel say it over the speakers and I think Kerry or Amy may have echoed that report. But it was not shown that they were up.

The info on the trach being called for ande used came to the thread from kt, I believe, who’s husband was transporting the vet to the fence with the equipment.

Each time I read the blog, tears come to my eyes. I can feel her pain. My thoughts and prayers are with them. I also pray to the horse Gods for Frodo. As I am sure your horse (and other pets) wait for you at the gates of heaven. God got a great horse that day.

Absolutely did not happen. Frodo did get up once, he then went back down and didn’t get up again…not even to get on the ambulance.
