I think I read in one of the press releases that they intubated him and bagged him. That would mean an ET tube.
It looks like Laine got through the jaw surgery okay…this was just posted on her blog. Whoo-hoo! Jingle! Jingle! for a very speedy recovery.
Michael and I looked at one another and gasped with surprise! LAINE STILL HAD ALL HER TEETH! Dr. Gal said the surgery went better than expected!!! Her mandible break was repaired with 2 plates and a screw…she sheared a tooth but it was still there to wire her jaw straight. If she did not have the lung issue Dr. Gal said he would have sent her home!!! No exterior scars!
Yes, as I am sitting here with anticipation to see our daughter…I feel the strength of all your e mails and phone calls…supporting Lainey and the love of our family. I can’t tell you how INCREDIBLE I feel right now!!! The green light is bright with hope across the lake.
ALL OF YOU…thank you. Thank you for bringing us into your lives and keeping us safe. Our gallant boy Frodo I know has watched over his loving partner…and I am sure when Laine was under anesthetic…she could feel his soft muzzle nudging ever so gently on her sweet face.
Laine will be able to see us in an hour or so. I will walk confidantly down the hall thru her ICU doors.
thank you my dear dear friends. thank you.
YEAH!!! :):):):) That is awesome news!!!
Fantastic news!!!
What fantastic news! Her family sounds like they are wonderful people.
The part about Frodo made me cry…
What wonderful news. May God watch over her and her family and help her to get well…
Responding a little late but wanted to clarify…
Horses (unlike many other species) are obligate nasal breathers. So if their noses are obstructed, they will suffocate (remember all the sponges killing horses in racing?). With bad trauma (like Frodo had) there may have been enough damage that he couldn’t breathe out his nose and had to have a tracheostomy (where you cut a hole from their neck to their trachea)- you can put an endotracheal tube through a tracheostomy and ventilate them. This could be done in a horse that was conscious but traumatized/sedate. If the horse was unconscious/anesthetized you can pass a tube through the mouth into the trachea to ventilate.
I wasn’t there, so I don’t know exactly what they did, but thought that might help explain.
I read her blog each day…a couple times a day in some cases. It always makes me tear a bit (as a mom), but today absolutely made me cry. It’s no wonder Laine is as wonderful and strong as she is…look at her amazing mother!!
I’ve had a few people email me about Laine, too. Non-horse people. I linked her blog to mine after I wrote about the accident and it is being viewed by so, so, SO many people. Each and every person is touched in ways that just can’t be imagined. A lot of prayers are being said for her, as well.
I’m so thankful the surgery went well.
Godbless Valerie for being so strong for Lanie! The surgery sounds like it went well and that the road to recovery is paved in gold! JIngling for Lanies!
Of course Godspeed to Frodo and of course The Quiet Man! You are my heroes!
Kenike,
I have been reading her blog almost every day too, and this one today made me cry (not that the others don’t). It is good news for Laine, but just the mentions of Frodo make me choke up. I never even knew Frodo, and have never met Laine, but I read their journal on the Rolex page and they seemed like a great pair. I hope Laine will be okay when she hears the news of Frodo. That’s not going to be easy. But with such a strong mother and friends, she will have a great support system.
That poem at the top that is dedicated to Frodo made me cry too, but it is a great poem for a great horse.
I, like so many others, have been following the blog daily, and would like to give props to Valerie for being so open and forthcoming with information at what must be one of the hardest times for her. Many of us relate to Laine, or remember her because of her kindness and being so informed is comforting…
So, thank you valerie!
What wonderful news about Laine! Her mom writes so well, when reading her blog I feel like I am right there with her.
Many prayers and positive thoughts still going out to Laine and her family. I love seeing good updates!
Has anyone linked or sent this thread to Valerie?
Does anyone have Valerie’s email? I have a message I’d like to send along…

I dunno if she’d want me to just dump it here for everyone to click on it or not but it is on the Crow’s Ear Farm homepage if you want to get it.
Thank you, LexInVA!
Hmm their real estate listing is gone. How odd.

It’s still on the broker page and it has been re-listed with “Drastic Price Reduction!”. Whatever that means. Here it is.
The first time I had heard the poem was in the movie “Dreamer”. When I read it just now I started to tear up. Frodo was a great ambassador to our sport. Jingling hardcore for Laine and her family!!! May Frodo and Quiet Man run free in fields of eternal green.
