What wonderful news!!! Go Lainey!! We’re all pulling for you!!
The first time I had heard the poem was in the movie “Dreamer”. When I read it just now I started to tear up. Frodo was a great ambassador to our sport. Jingling hardcore for Laine and her family!!! May Frodo and Quiet Man run free in fields of eternal green.
That’s where I’d heard it before! Thanks, I couldn’t remember and it was driving me crazy…
It’s perfect for Frodo, and Quiet Man…and so many other horses who put so much heart into Eventing.
Such great news about Lainey! Keep it up girl!
continuing to send prayers, cyber hugs, and jingles for laine, her mom, and her family.
hopefully she’ll recover quickly and will be able to grieve in peace.
RIP Frodo.
that last picture of their dressage test…the one where they are both smiling…just brings tears to my eyes! i would hold onto that picture in my brain forever! it’s just such a great shot.
I do not know how you tell someone that the horse did not make it, but they did - and how seriously in danger she was, and if there was a choice, as a parent, one would choose the child and not the horse but not by much.
I have had to tell owners about bad news with horses. It is not easy. It take courage.
I guess you talk about the quality of their relationship, the bond they had, the strength each gave to one another, and how those gifts, however great and however difficult to live without, are not going to go on forever. They are gifts, given by God, and then, we He feels we have learned what we need to learn, they go back to Heaven.
Great loving relationships are the most important thing in the world. On tombstones it does not say great event rider or where you finished at Rolex. It says Loving Wife or Beloved Husband. Anyone who has loved a horse as Laine obviously does has already been given a great gift, greater than I may have with my horse, whom I love very much. They shared a lot, and that is why it hurts when they leave us, but it is what they left us learning that is important, and what we do with that knowledge in the future that matters, not that they are gone, or that someone should be blamed.
I hope sincerely that everyone gives Laine’s family as much support as possible through prayer or whatever dedication one practices.
YES…

Godbless Valerie for being so strong for Lanie! The surgery sounds like it went well and that the road to recovery is paved in gold! JIngling for Lanies!
Of course Godspeed to Frodo and of course The Quiet Man! You are my heroes!
GodSpeed…
Go Laine!!!
I cried when I read the part about Laine feeling Frodo there with her. WHAT an amazing woman her mom must be…
While I’m not an event rider–I’m so very touched by all the support the eventing and equestrian community has given to each other and the two riders hurt at Rolex, especially Laniey.
I have been so moved by all of this. Just reading the posts and then the releases by Laniey’s mom, I have been moved to tears time and time again. Words could never express the pain that the family must be going through during this time. The uncertainty of Laniey’s condition and the added heartbreak of losing such a beautiful, fine horse and friend.
I’m rallying for Laniey’s recovery and I have been reading the posts for any updates. I’m sharing her story with my dressage friends who don’t know what happened over the weekend at Rolex and we are brainstorming for ways that the dressage community in our area can help her out.
I have gone out every day and hugged my beautiful horse and tell her how special and beautiful she is and it’s stories like this one that remind me how precious and limited the time is that we have with our partners.
Laniey’s family is in my prayers. They will need tons of support for her healing, both physically, but most importantly mentally.
Her site has an entry from her dad
I just checked her site again, and there is an incredibly poignant entry from her dad today.
As a mom, I cannot imagine the horror through her mother’s eyes. Then, you stop to consider her father as well, and his anguish. It must make the hurt even that much greater for Valerie. At least, I know it would for me.
There will always be that “thing between Daddies and their Little Girls”.
Continuing to jingle and pray for each of them.
The message from her Father is more than I can bear! What eloquent and thoughtful parents Lainie has! She will be lucky to have their support thru this terribly tough time in her life! If only she could be spared the sad news but she cannot!
Thanks for taking such good care of your daughter. You set a fine example for all parents in the world!:)
Once again I have to add Godspeed to Frodo and the Quite Man! You will never be forgotten for your bravery and your big hearts!
I am still jingling for you Lanie!
Wow- his post is amazing. True, and helps put all the pictures of what they are going thru in order.
 How can it be both? But it is…
as a parent, one would choose the child and not the horse but not by much.
Huh? Not in my world. Love the horses I certainly do, but they are not in the same universe as my human family.
Delta you know what I mean, Lainey’s mom and her love their horses very much.
Pray for her health and continued recovery and for her family’s strength to help her thru.
Does anybody have an email address for Laine’s mom? Steuart would like to send her an email, but I didn’t see a way to contact her on the blog. If anyone can PT me, that would be much appreciated.
Her blog brings tears to my eyes every time I read it. What an amazing family!
Ifyou go to her webpage for the farm, there is a contact link- that is what I used.
Thanks. I had already tried that and the only page that was working was the entry page (no links). But after reading your email, I took a chance and doug a little and found it. Thanks again.

Certain agendas? Are you kidding?
After years of not riding eventing myself but supporting fellow riders that want to do it, I no longer can do that and have been vocal about it.
It’s the dead horse thing at the upper levels, almost every Rolex since I lived in the area and I read almost every **** has a catastrophic wreck. Not always rotational but made more likely to cause career ending injury or worse by the contruction of the fence.
Riders have a choice and choose to point the horse at something that could kill them both. For what? Personal glory? Failing to understand what can happen or thinking it won’t happen to them?
Tradition? Come on…ducks and flower baskets?
So, yeah, I have an agenda. Dead horses and terrible rider injuries at the very top levels at increasingly regular intervals ands being told I just don’t get the kick on at all costs so don’t understand.
Guess not.
No one is kicking on at all costs. Please, can’t we all stop the bashing. If you have a voice to be heard be at the saftey summit meeting. I for one, will be there. I am handing over my horses and students to Ruthie for the Area III championships and I am coming to have a voice…a productive voice. We are all trying to figure this out. Please realize that Laine will look to read things when she is well and it will be devistating to her to know people are blaming her in any way. It is the wrong way to go about it. We all need to be a team in this… it doesn’t help that you all use ULR, BNR, LLR or what ever that all means…we are all riders and I think you segregate us more than we do you. Please, I ask all of you, come to the meeting, love the sport, love the riders and the horses, support our organization, let go of the anger. It sucks…we all know that, but why can’t we come together and get it right? I have Trade Marked a word that I believe describes eventing right now…Crappin’stance…a crappy circumstance. All the members have been asked to share their voice…let’s do it…how great would it be to walk away with something solved?

Great dressage pictures of these two at Rolex
Not to upset anyone with this but there are some lovely dressage pictures on the site of a well known canadian eventing photography some might enjoy seeing.

Oh, I hope no one gets upset with these lovely photos. I think it’s a tribute more than something to get upset about. Frodo was a lovely horse and should be remembered for something wonderful at Rolex, not his tragic death. Thank you for posting the link. I think it was the right thing to do.
I just wanted to post so Laine’s thread didn’t get lost in the mix. I am sure she will want to read everyone’s well wishes when she is able. Her parents are doing a super job of updating her ever growing progress. For those of you who do not know it, her site is laineashkereventing.com.

Oh gosh, it sounds like she’s progressing soooo well. That is truly excellent news. I will keep jingling for her.
Definitely people should post pictures of Frodo doing what he loved - he should be remembered as the great horse he was. I’m sure that Lainey would want it that way.
Her parents updates make me cry every time…It sounds like she’s doing a lot better, yay!
