Lainey and Frodo Thread

I’m here at Rolex, but of course we don’t know anything either. I did not see Laine and Frodo’s fall, but I did see Quiet Man and Sarah go down, and that was not good either. Heartbreaking to see a horse struggle to get up and can’t… they just don’t stay down if they don’t have to. He was behind screens for quite awhile, though the hold was not nearly that of Frodo’s.

Does anyone know what happened to either horse?

Jingling for all…

Oh, no! How awful. I left right after Karen O’Connor, about 3:30, probably just before it happened. Major jingles for them…

Caitlin[/QUOTE]

Me too, and I am thanking God that I did. If I witnessed that I would have been beyond devistated. I was standing right there, but left when Karen was being held up by foot traffic in the galloping lane.

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved tonight. I’m sorry for those who had to witness this devastating event, and my heart really goes out to Lanie tonight.

Please keep us updated! ::cry::

COTH coverage says he is resting comfortably with a shoulder injury. The Quiet Man, I mean.

They only say that Frodo was transported to the clinic. No update at all listed on him. Jingles. And, of course, for Laine.

ETA: Actually, correction, COTH just says right front injury. The shoulder part came from another board. Could still be accurate, as they aren’t incompatible.

After reading what Beverly posted, I can’t help but wonder if the LOR’s crew and actors are aware (or if they care…but you know what I’m getting at)

Thanks for the info on the fall. It’s been kind of hard to keep up. Rotational falls are horrid and just scare the crap out of me…even in the best of circumstances.

It sounds like Lainey’s going to be okay… with some injuries but not life threatening. No word on Frodo, though?

Don’t the USEA or the event organizers have any kind of public affairs official to handle this kind of thing?

Seems they should have some official channel to communicate facts in this age on instant information…and speculation.

Not that I think the news of poor Frodo is anything good if all was as described…but we don’t even have anything official about the rider condition.

But even the race tracks have somebody to handle information.

I couldn’t agree more! I’m not even finding anything via google (though I’m also nursing a boy who has very suddenly spiked a 103 degree fever…:o)

Oh NO!
Poor Laine and Frodo… my thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved

Maybe Laine and her family haven’t chosen to make a statement about her condition or the horse’s yet or haven’t provided that information to USEA. (I have no idea whether or not they have done so.) I would really like to know how they are both doing, too, but I think there are other concerns that take priority over keeping fans up-to-date, and that as much as we want to know immediately, we aren’t entitled to know immediately.

Couldn’t find a thing either other then that less then informative newspaper artical more about LOR then the the accident(s).

Hell I don’t care if the horse was in LOTR or not, I want to know if he’s dead and what injuries his rider suffered. Details on the other one, Quiet Man, would be nice as well and I read that rider took a pretty hard fall as well.

While it may be true privacy is important, this is a major event at a state park with 40k or so attending. Keeping details private only fuels the fire of rumor. Makes it look like there is little concern by those outside the industry as well.

And in good time, you and I and everyone else will know. But the people who need to know now – people who can or should do something immediately – do know. The rest of us can manage to wait a day, surely?

Is the need to know immediately anything more than morbid curiosity? Is there something you plan to do with the information right now, tonight, that cannot wait until the rider is ready to release information on her horse, her friend, her partner?

I just heard from grooms at Rolex that Frodo was euthanized. Laine has a fractured vertebrae and lost teeth, and no word on Quiet Man other than not euthanized.

OMG- Biggest jingles and prayers all around. My heart just dropped. Not good, not good at all.

I’m so sorry. Not a surprise given the on-site reports on the other thread but still awful news. My heart goes out to Laine. Best wishes for her recovery.

Frodo Baggins and Laine Ashker fell at fence 5. Ashker sustained injuries but was conscious, talking and able to move all extremities when she was transported to the University of Kentucky Hospital. She is currently under the care of the emergency and trauma services staff.

Frodo Baggins was immediately attended by a team of veterinarians. He was given intravenous fluids and supportive medications for shock and pain. After he was stabilized, he was sedated and transported by horse ambulance to nearby Hagyard Equine Medical Institute, where he was immediately attended by emergency personnel.

Further tests showed that Frodo Baggins had sustained a fracture at the base of his skull, as well as severe lung injury. As the prognosis was very poor, a representative of the family concurred that euthanasia was the most humane option for the horse. A complete necropsy examination will be performed. Everyone at the event is saddened by the loss of this brave horse.

RIP Frodo.

Frodo did not make it, I just got word from my trainer who knows Lainey and her mom well.
