Lainey and Frodo Thread

If memory serves correctly, last May of 2007, Laine’s horse, Eight Saint James Place, dropped dead soon after crossing the finish lines at the Jersey Fresh three star event. It was an extremely hot day - I believe the heat was blamed for the horse overheating to the point of death. Please somebody correct any errors here.

Prayers and jingles for Lainey and her friends and family. Lainey, I hope your recovery is uneventful and rapid.

And my deepest condolences on the loss of Frodo. Lainey and Frodo were a magnificent partnership, and will always be remembered as such.

My first awareness of Lainey was when she and her mother sang the National Anthem at Groton House one year. I was in the trailering area getting ready for Stadium, and I heard these two lovely voices wafting over the PA system a capella. I kept asking everyone what the recording was because it so captured me, only to find out it was a competitor and her mother singing live. I’ve followed her career since, and truly wish her and her whole team heart’s ease as she recovers from her injuries.

Very sad news. It makes me sick to my stomach all these tragedies… it’s really too much to take for me. I don’t know how the riders keep going after all these bad events lately… it would be hard for me to.

Jingles for Laine’s recovery… I am sure she is heartbroken.

Could someone please tell me what happened to her the first time? I keep reading that on different posts and would like info.
Horsenut, you can read all about it here, if you want to cry all day.

Lainey update

On her website is states she is on a vent-2 punctured/collapsed lungs…jingles:no:

At that, she is probably lucky judging from the descriptions of the fall. Hope her luck holds in the days to come.

so sad! :frowning:

RIP Frodo - you were a wonderful horse to watch and I’m sure an even more incredible partner to Laine.
Best wishes for a complete and speedy recovery Laine - from the heartache too.

The necropsy actually determined that the horse had a severe acute GI bleed.

I can’t imagine how painful it must be to lose two horses so tragically in the space of less than a year. My heart goes out to everyone involved.

RIP Frodo…
My heart goes out to everyone involved :frowning:

Thank you for the info and links…I had read about her on the “featured riders” of Rolex… I loved her story. I am sad for her and her family. It says the other horse she was riding was her friends…who had died at an event…too much : (

 Godspeed Frodo:cry: Prayers for Laine

and thank you JRey for positng the link to that photo. They both looked so happy:sadsmile:

Beautiful pictures of Lainey and Fro Fro to remember him by:

We are planting flowers today and I will plant them for you. They will be Frodo’s flowers.
That is a great idea! I have a yellow rose I planted the day one of my good friends passed away (I got the call right after I had finished planting it- so I planted it as he went missing in his kayak in a really big rapid.)

I saw it budding the other day. I can’t wait for it to flower. The bright yellow flowers always remind me of what a great fun person my friend was and make me feel a little better. I can’t drive by his house without crying, but for some reason the big yellow roses always make me smile. It’s hard to not remember the good times when looking at bright yellow.

Hugs to everyone! Jingles for Laine

How appropriate! Lainey always wears a yellow ribbon in her hair for showjumping.

God bless Lainey. Get strong and breathing on your own. Soon you’ll have that awful ET tube out of your mouth. I hope you’ll be breathing over the vent soon instead of it having to fill your lungs. I had a baby who was on and off a vent for almost 5 months and my heart goes out to you. I’m sure through all this equipment and pain and poking all you want to do is curl up in a ball and cry, but you can’t. You can’t even talk or sob to let it all out because of that stupid tube. Well, just know there are hundreds, if not thousands of horsepeople here who are here to help you bear the weight of your pain. Imagine thousands of people who have never met you are with you in spirit to mourn the loss of your best friend. Frodo may be gone physically but just remember, he is your angel, still carrying you through.

I hope you see this thread so you know how many people are pulling for you.

Well said J. Turner.

Laine - you are not alone. We are all with you holding you in our collective arms.

Lovely pictures One Star.

I’m not an eventer, but I did follow this pair. Lainey and Frodo seemed to have such a great partnership and showed so much joy in their endeavors.

Very sad. My thoughts and prayers go out to Lainey for a full recovery and all my sympathies for her loss.

Huge jingles for both riders, especially for Lainey’s recovery!!!:(:(:frowning: Jingles for both horses as well as they find their way across the rainbow bridge:(:frowning: What a tragic weekend.

Pictures of their whole test Friday.

If I were Lainey I could never event again… and I bet you she will be back out there ASAP with Eric and Alex and Seajack, and that says something.

I was there yesterday two fences over. I am crying as I read this thread and this really got me as I deeply feel that need to curl up in a ball and it breaks my heart knowing that she can’t cry for her friend right now. I’ve had to euthanize two horses due to injury and you just never ever get over it. The only consolation that I had with it was that there really was no decision to make, it was already made. I never had to wrestle with that. It was the humane thing to do with your partner. The grief is unimaginable. God bless her and all of her support people. Our hearts are with you in every way.
