Landrover Kentucky 2023

Anyone have a couch, floor space etc, available for a last minute traveler who is VERY budget conscious but happy to pay for the space? (Me)

Coming to meet and talk to Rhys Powell about his amazing helmets. Since he is from New Zealand, I think this will be the easiest time/way to pick his brain about the process he’s been through to make the safest helmet on the market and he’s an eventer too!!! For those who are on FB, he’s got the BEST Cover photo on his profile that should cement why he designed a better helmet. LOL>

I’m likely flying in Friday night and flying out Sunday afternoon from CVG. So would need 2 nights with a place to sleep.

Many thanks,

Emily

As of April 13, Lauren Nicholson has withdrawn Vermiculus and Zoe Crawford has withdrawn K.E.C. Zara.

Aw I am sad, I was so looking forward to seeing Vermiculus run!

Shopping question from a first timer: what kind of deals and discounts have you seen in previous years?

FreeRide had really good deals last year. Some folks have found bridles for a steep discount, but I’ve never looked for those before (but will be browsing this year). Honestly I don’t think the entire vendor part of it is a super steal of a deal type of experience, but it’s an opportunity to see a TON of stuff in person. Most of the prices I’ve seen are the same I see online.

I see Covert Rights on the 5* entry list for KY. Anyone know why Colleen had him in the prelim at the Fence HT today?

They had 2 refusals in SJ at Terranova and were eliminated before XC. I’m guessing she wanted to get a run in and make sure the kinks were worked out without overdoing it.

And had a CR at the Aiken Eventing Grand Prix also. And that was an UGLY round for them. And I love this horse and have a ton of respect for Colleen.

It will be interesting to see what happens running at 5* with that preparation.

We have a local rider here aimed for the 4*. Last year he came to a schooling HT, jumping around the Prelim and did his 4* test. Nice easy outing and way to practice the test.

Do 4* and 5* horses need to enter the lower levels as HC?

No.

Flexible Fit had an e-mail coupon specific for LRK3DE last year. Showed a screenshot to the staff running the booth and got 20% off a breastplate and grab strap I’d wanted.

If there’s something specific you’re after, keep an eye on emails and social media for day-of discounts.

I feel like it is more that you can see EVERYTHING in one place than it is a situation where I find bargains. Occasionally some places have deals - agree with watching social media if there is something you are interested in. And we saw discounts and giveaways at the end of the day Sunday when vendors were packing up and didn’t want to take stuff home.

The one thing I think is a consistently competitive market there is the saddle market - the manufacturers WANT to make that sale, and offer all kinds of incentives. Voltaire threw in a bridle when I ordered my new saddle that week, even ordering from my home rep who was going to be fitting it. And if you know what you need in a used saddle, you can get a deal! Especially if someone has traded it in with a different manufacturer - for example if you find a used Voltaire at the CWD booth, they want it gone and will give you a crazy good price, because every manufacturer would rather steer you to their own product.

Livestream – USEF.org/network is channeling free in the U.S.

The have both the 5* and 4* on the schedule. How will that work ??? They appear to be running at the same time, I assume on different courses. ?

Fingers crossed that no 5* time is lost to showing 4* riders! I’m interested in the 4*'s, but at another time.

I am also hoping they will have a full replay available for later viewing. I’m completely conflicted that Saturday and will miss the whole thing live.

Loved the course walk video! They just showed the highlights, though.

Loved the Ralph Hill and Erick Dierks Course Walks. One year Ralph was dragging a leg around and no one could keep up with him  Flair Strips had a whole series of these two together.

A point here is to walk your courses at the time of day you ride so you can see the lighting (shadows).

They run the 4* first in the morning. Take a break to swap the course ropes around. Then they run the 5*.
