Latest SoloShot3 Update

Pardon me for creating a new topic, but I could not find the old one. I just got an email with a shipping schedule. Looks like they are shipping the indoor accessory separately, and the main package in May/June. I am not believing them this time and I certainly don’t want the thing without the indoor accessory.

Any updates on how the Pixio works?

I just got my Pixio for my birthday. Thank you, dear hubby:). Will give it a try this weekend, and report back. My own research has shown that Pixio produces a more accurate filming for the distance we want (dressage arena). Soloshot2 was originally developed for surfers, and the location isn’t that precise. 2~3’ off from thousands feet away is probably not that big a deal. For dressage riders, that 2~3’ off 200’ away can be problematic. We will see whether this statement is accurate. I will know more this weekend.

I am starting to think that what Soloshot3 tries to do, to film without triangulation, is not a technology that is currently available. Think about it, GPS utilizes triangulation to pinpoint your location. Soloshot2 uses the same technology. There is simply not a way to accurately pinpoint your location otherwise. Without GPS, Pixio creates its own triangulation. It is a bit work to have to put up three beacons, but unless technology advances far, far ahead, it is probably the limitation we have to live with. My plan is to have plugin at the locations of my three beacons, and just plug in my beacons and leave them there. This will save me some setup work when I ride at home.

I have a Soloshot 2 and it works exactly as advertised. Actually, it works better than advertised, at closer distances than stated in the literature.

Sorry so many are frustrated with the Soloshot 3 deliveries. That said, it was pretty clear that it was a pre-order so you takes your chances. I have not heard of anyone saying that Soloshot refused to return their money.

LOL. We can’t blame soloshot for that. Here are a couple of the
ones I found. I am so glad I canceled mine. It’s disgusting what they are doing to customers.

Before all this, I used to set my video camera up on a tripod in the viewing part of the arena–which was a very nice size, raised up and with benches. I could get the entire arena with my video camera and it wasn’t a bad solution. But the current places I am riding do not have a viewing area and the camera will be stuck in a corner so I’ll miss a lot. I think the pixio will be good for this. The only problem I will have is setting up the beacons. I think two can go in corners but one has to be on the side and that’s a bit of a problem for me to figure out.

Soloshot3 shot themselves in the foot by crying wolf so many times. Now no one believes them. The shipping schedule put my bundle being shipped to me May/June but the indoor accessory was being shipped later and they expected it would ship in July but who knows, maybe December. Anyway, it would likely be past the time you have to return your bundle for a refund. So basically, if they took another two years to fix the indoor thingie, you’d be stuck with the bundle. Without indoor capabilities, the camera is not worth much to me. As soon as my refund drops, I will be ordering Pixio.

Just to clarify, does Pixio already work indoors?

Thx

Does anyone have any experience with the Cambox? Seems like it would be easy to hand your instructor or a friend an equipped hat and get your ride videoed.

Has anyone actually used their Pixio yet? Don’t see a ton of footage on Youtube that doesn’t come from Pixio themselves.

I’m still holding out for the SS3, not having to set up beacons is the exact reason I want it, and it’s about a third of the price by the time I buy a compatible camera for the Pixio + the robot. Don’t even mind waiting for the indoor accessory, I spend most of my summer outdoors anyway.

I cancelled my Soloshot 3 order this month and got the Pixio instead. The Pixio arrived three days after we placed the order. I just used it for the first time today and it worked great. Tracked us and kept us fully in frame (except when riding close by in front of camera) in the 20x80 indoor the whole ride no problems. My indoor walls prevent being able to position the camera back a bit from the arena so when riding by the camera I either heed to turn a few feet before that side or accept I will ride by too close to be kept fully in frame but thats fine and not fault of the Pixio. It took less than 10 minutes to set up even though it was our first time doing it. We had the camera/robot slightly to inside of one corner and the beacons in the other three; beacon no. 1 in the corner diagonal to the robot, no. 2 corner to left of the robot, and three to the right in the other short side corner same end as robot. The hardest part of using it was indoors the green lights on the beacons were quite bright and the movement and low whirring sound on the robot/camera took my horse awhile and a little bit of drama to get used to but she got used to them fairly quickly. But yeah, works completely fine. There are lots of variables that could contribute to less than optimal tracking, just be aware of them. Make sure you have the latest software update on the robot, that you have the correct compatible camera file uploaded, set up beacons in position and order of instructions, make sure ground and tripod are level, turn on beacons, robot, camera, and tracker, etc…

I am disappointed in the Soloshot company and regret we waited so long for it rather than ordering the Pixio sooner now. They certainly didnt lead customers to believe they would be waiting over a year. Especially with their many failed delivery estimates. Even if they do get the Soloshot 3 out in June which based on their previous promises seems dubious the additional accessory needed to shoot indoors is not ready. From what they say it might be in July they hope but that is no guarantee. But they did refund our money and were professional about it.

I"m hanging in there still with Soloshot3 and keeping my fingers crossed! I do have a soloshot2 that I use frequently though.

My husband got me one for my birhday last year and we are hanging in… Never had one and it sounds exactly like what I need… I also keep my fingers crossed that it will happen some day…

OK. A quick update on the Pixio. Our camera is not one of the compatible models, so no zoom in and out, just tracking. As far as tracking is concerned, it is exceptional, keeping me square in the middle of the screen at all time with smooth panning. No jerky action here.

Issues:

Issue 1. It took some time to fiddle with the beacons. My arena is outdoor, and with this horrid Oklahoma wind, they got blown over the moment I put them up. I eventually figured out to sort of the “clamp” the legs to the wall of the cubbyhole at the top of the letter boxes, and they stay up well despite the wind. This won’t be an issue if you are indoors though.

Issue 2: I suspect the robot has memory leak issue, which causes the robot’s battery to drain prematurely. I fully charged the robot four days in advance, and by the time I tried it, the robot was already drained of its power and continued to shut itself off. I recharged and tested it again the day after, and the robot worked perfectly fine.

Issue 3: The wrist band is poorly constructed. I broke it the third time I wore it (not the watch, but the band)… Also I think the watch is way too large as a “watch”. I order the arm band and will see how it goes. Arm band is not included in the box.

Overall I am very happy with its performance. There are some quirks and issues, that I hope the company will address soon.

Thanks for the update on Pixio. Would like to hear more as you continue to use it. My refund from Soloshot came through, so at least that they do well!

I’m still waiting. Mainly, at this point, the price I paid is a fraction of the Pixio. I feel more confident that they will deliver a product, it’s just a matter of when.

I paid $729 for my Soloshot3 package that I cancelled; the comparable Pixio package (with camera, tripod and carry bag) would be about $1,200 BUT:
a) I could use the Sony video camera without the Pixio unit at horse shows;
b) the indoor range of the Pixio is sufficient to film my entire ride in a regulation size indoor–perfect for working on a freestyle–the Soloshot3 will only get up to half a regulation length indoor. So if you use the SS3, plan to stay on a 20 meter circle. It defiinitely won’t work for show prep. To me, that difference is worth the extra $500 because to get that range with the SS3, I’d need TWO of them;
c) who knows when the indoor accessory will ever be finished…you might go another winter without filming capability inside…

Personally, I am thinking of buying the Pixio compatible Sony video camera (to retain the possibility of buying the Pixio) and see how that goes and pay some people to tape me once on a while. I am not sure I need either system…

I know it does not move up the delivery date, but this video has me salivating, lol.

Well that was an easy set up!

Even if it does not track beyond the 100ft in an indoor, you will be far enough away and the camera zoomed out enough you’ll likely still be mostly in the shot.

For me personally, the idea of setting up beacons is a no-go. Spending $500+ more was a no-go. The soloshot 2 technology seemed to be pretty darn good so any improvements are a bonus. Not happy about the delays but also recognize I signed up for a pre-order and they would honour a refund at any point. For myself, it seems silly to pull out now less than 2 months from the supposed finish line.

According to the last email communication I received, the first SoloShot 3s were supposed to start shipping on May 25th. Can any confirm whether they actually started, or if they have gotten an email with their shipping window?
