Quite a few updates and adjustments have been made since they first came out, so yours should be great to use straight away

I seem to be a bit of a dunce with my SS3, but have learned alot. CHECK THE FOLDERS on your sdcard for your videos! I seem to be the only person who didn’t ā€œgetā€ this automatically! Ack!

Did it arrive today?? Good luck with it!! I had some problems in the beginning because I am not very good with technical things, but by now it works beautifully!!!

Finally had time to try it out and I love, love, love the SS3. So much easier to set up than the SS2 (which did become easy once I learned the steps). I guess the updates have helped it had no trouble tracking me and staying zoomed in and focused. The resolution was so much better than the Sony camer that came in the SS2 package. So pleased!

my SS3 video from today  my warmup with my 4 year old… I love the SS3 now I can set real goals for my training and watch afterwards how it worked. Today I wanted to work on getting her in front of my legs and then let her stretch into the connection… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8FSr37aafQ&feature=youtu.be

Great video, lovely horse. Don’t you love how much a video of training rides helps?

Thank you!! You are right, its amazing, and it was worth waiting for it

Is there anyone here who has tried the SoloShot with a covered arena, as opposed to an indoor arena? I live in NC, and no one here has an indoor. We have a roof and kickrail but no walls. There is a lot of light from the outside. We do not turn on overheads. Is the indoor accessory needed because of GPS or lighting or some other reason? Thank you.

Kind of curious, now that Manni has posted a video - is that the best zoom they do? Or can you set it up to zoom in more on horse and rider? If that is the best it does, I’m not sure it is all that helpful for what I am looking for…

How long can it video, or can you turn it on (and off)? And can you do so remotely, or do you have to get off the horse to do so?

Are they totally battery, and how long does a charge last?

Did you get the 25x or 65x zoom (I can’t imagine needed 65x unless you are doing cross country?).

I am trying to decide if I should start saving my pennies - I ride alone, and have longed for one of these forEVER. It is a major investment (for me at least), but would be super useful!

from what I have seen in SS2 forums… Sometimes it works… Obviously it depends on the type of roof. But officially it does not work right now but there will be something for it in the future. And I think the reason is the GPS which obviously doesn’t work under most roofs…

well the nice thing for me was that at the time we bought it, it was a lot cheaper… Yes we waited 2 years, but in the end it paid off…

I am not a technical person so I basically did not change a lot to the settings. I am happy with how it never looses me and I don’t really need more zoom… For me its a training tool and it shows what I want it to show… But I know that other people have different settings and then the camera gets closer…

I think it does make an automatic break after 10 min. I usually record my working period and then I stop the recording on my tag (in the wrist band) while we have a break. After the walk I turn it back on. And the battery lasts around 1 to 1 1/2 hours. If you leave it running while you change horses it probably does not last for more then 1 or 2 horses. I shut it off immediately after I get off my horse and I get about 3 horses out of it.

And I have the 65.

For me its perfect, because I have no mirror and there have no idea how my riding looks like. So from now on I can really check how everything looks like. Hopefully it will save me some lessons… And by the way I watched some of my favorite Dressage videos and tried to do what the clinician was telling the rider in the lesson…

Margaret, I’m guessing it is a GPS issue - most metal roofs are going to be an issue with GPS tracking.

Thanks Manni - I’m curious to hear from others too - for me, this is not zoomed in enough. I want to use it for similar reasons - I don’t have mirrors, and ride alone.

I’m curious why the 65 - that seems like a LOT of zoom power (and it isn’t being used - but that may be a setting issue). I do photography, and 25 times zoom is a LOT! And my old camcorder (that died) had 25 times zoom, and was plenty to get close up across the long side of a dressage court. Maybe someone else can pitch in too.

I’m going to start saving - it is a lot of money, but yes, for someone who isn’t in a regular training program, it can be super useful. The few times I’ve had show rides video’d, I’ve been able to fix some riding issues just from that - so I can imagine the luxury of having video several times weekly!

I’m pretty sure the zoom is more about the GPS range, I think I read that a ā€˜tight’ zoom is about 10m. So, mine seems to be that if it has a good GPS lock on the tag it can zoom in more, if not it stays more out so you will at least be in frame. That’s my theory!
I think Manni01 has it set to medium.

Here’s one of mine set to tight:

I pause the tracking and recording via the tag (that is on your person) between riding my 2 horses and haven’t had the battery run out yet.

I’m not sure I’d be confident of it working in a covered arena.

What great picture quality! Did you buy the Optic25 or Optic65 camera?

OK, that is useful - tight is probably what I’d want too.

Zoom is how much the camera can zoom in on the subject - in photo terms, if you start with a 18 millimeter frame as your ā€œbaseā€, then 25 times would be the equivalent of 450 millimeters (25x18), which is a pretty hefty zoom factor. Most pro photogs use a 70 - 200 mm zoom for dressage. I understand photo terms - just curious as to what the advantages are for a 65x. Maybe for surfers or eventers or other sports where you are much farther away from the camera?

I did notice the video quality is going to be higher with the 65x camera - curious flight, do you have the 25 or the 65?

Oh another question I can’t figure out from their site - when you buy the SoloShot3, does it come with a tag and armband, or do you have to buy those separate?

Thanks again Flight - I’m going to whine and beg for a SS3 for Christmas! I’ve been wanting a Robocam for years now, and this one looks like it is easier to set up, and offers what I want - they are pricey, but very useful!

They are good! And hopefully all the bugs are ironed out by then so it will be perfect

I’ve used my Soloshot2 successfully in a covered arena, however, it was a very clear day and the cover was vinyl and NOT metal. YMMV

And yes, the reason for the indoor accessory is to make sure both the tag and the base can lock into GPS.
