Zap Zap Zap runs 4th! Congratulations LaurieB!
You must be very proud.
What a lovely horse.
Another horse to start keeping an eye on
Congrats LaurieB
Although upon review, not his best finish Heās got a 0-2-0 record from 5 races at both Belmont and Saratoga.
PS. Saratoga Race 8, 9/1. Maiden Special Weight, 3 years old and up. 6 1/2f on the dirt.
Thank you, skydy. We were hoping for a little better outcome since heād had 3 previous 2nds at SAR and BEL in his first four races. I think the distance was too short for him but that appeared to be the last MSW at Saratoga that was available to him. He hasnāt broken his maiden yet, but heās earned 55K in his five races so thatās not all bad.
HIs 2yo half-sister, Go, will make her debut for us at Ellis Park on Sunday if we donāt get rained out. Longer distance than we wanted for her first try but weāve been getting shut out for the last month and this is the race she finally got into. Fingers crossed for a nice first start.
I know he was favored to do better, but heās young!
Iāll watch for Go. Best of luck.
Thank you.
LaurieB, Iāll have to keep an eye out for Go also I think TVG broadcasts those races.
You are right, the two 2nds are certainly nothing to sneeze at. Maybe not a Paid Up Subscriber but those are very few and hard to find. Also hard if a trainer is looking for a race and canāt find the conditions they want
I donāt have a āwatchā list or anything so feel free to post here
For me, just fun to know that I āknowā someone who breeds racehorses that are successful
Superb, congrats Laurie.
You come up with very kewl names, too. Any meaning behind Zap(x3)?
WhereāsMyWhite, TVG should be broadcasting the races at Ellis Park as they usually do. I hope she runs a race to cheer for. (And, small correction, Zap Zap Zap has 3 seconds in five starts.)
beaujoulais, we bred Zap Zap Zap and sold him as a yearling, so he was named by his new owner. I would imagine that his name is a nod to his sire, Ghostzapper.
LaurieB, my mistake. I misread Equibaseā¦ yes out of 5 starts, 0-3-0
I think you are right that Ellis Park will be on TVG. Do you know what race and day Go will be racing?
Goās race is tomorrow (9/3) at Ellis Park, race 8 at 4:10 (CDT). She is #4.
āI would imagine that his name is a nod to his sire, Ghostzapper.ā
Eeeesh, silly me, I didnāt realize his breeding. Should have been kinda obvious, though.:uhoh: Thanks for responding.
LOL, Beaujolais. No worries.
You got it, thanks
Congrats, Laurie - not in NY this summer so never got up there, but goody - now weāll have two more to watch.
Ellis Park (the Pea Patch?) wasnāt on TVG todayā¦ too much Saratoga, Gulfstream, Del Mar, etc
Having said that, nice finish for your filly in her first race! Could be that she just needed this race under her belt.
Equibase didnāt have free video either From the chart looks like she did a nice job of staying steady as various challengers attacked the winner and made up ground in the stretch to finish second!
I will confess I didnāt read the details of Dukes Upās race history (and donāt always understand conditions to know if a race is the āsameā or a step up or down butā¦)
Happened to catch the name of Bruce and Laurie Berenson as the breeder of Dukes Up, winner of race 9 at Del Mar today Heard āLaurie Berensonā and thoughtā¦ I āknowā her
Congrats. I know not his first win (although Equibase seems a bit wonky with wins as Results show 2 wins in 2017 but Statistics shows just 1 win for 2017 and 2 wins overall career (first win was 1/15/17 at SA).
In any case, congrats again
Thanks for watching! We were thrilled with Goās debut. The notes on the chart donāt bear the slightest resemblance to the race, LOL, but she ran great and was beaten by a filly with experience. She did everything we wanted her do to and had a wonderful ride by Jesus Castenon. I have no idea why TVG wasnāt showing Ellis today, I thought they usually did. (Sorry about that!)
We raced Dukes Up (a homebred) until June when we sold him to an owner in CA. He won for us early in the year at Santa Anita, had a couple of 2nds, then won today at Del Mar for his new owner.
All in all, it was a very good day! We hope to race Go next at either Churchill or Keeneland depending on when sheās ready.
Since TVG never showed Ellis Park, hereās a video of Goās race yesterday if anyone is interested. She is #4 and our silks are predominantly yellow.

Nice filly and she tried all the way. She didnāt look like a maiden handling tight quarters, held her ground and not afraid to stick her nose in there. What a patient ride, perfect for a first timer. Always nice when they gallop out bright and sound too.
Whats next for her?
LaurieB, TVG does show Ellis but sometimes (I think) just during the week on days when the bigger tracksā¦ Gulfstream (although this is more GPās āsecond tierā meet), Monmouth, Saratoga, Del Marā¦ they usually only carry (on TVG) 3-4 tracks on TV (rarely 5). Sometimes a spillover to TVG2 but looked like Ellis wasnāt on either yesterday. Much focus on Saratoga yesterday as it is the last weekend of their meet; TVG advertised every track, every day for both Saratoga and Del Mar. Saratoga yesterday was āughā in the slopā¦ you could hear the rain on the tent roof where the TVG analysts were sitting.
Thanks for posting the video!
Go did a very respectable job down the stretch and didnāt give up. Decent fractions in the first part of the race and yes, handled the tight quarters well. Sometimes the first time starters just need to get that first race under their belt and really āget a clueā about the whole racing thing. Will be interesting to watch her future races.
Even if you donāt own Dukes Up any more, you are always still his breeder!
Keep us posted on Goās upcoming schedule
