LeaderEquine Blankets?

Saw this ad on Facebook, the blankets appear to have a similar shoulder dart to the rambo optimo blankets (which are, of course, the ony style that don’t rub my horses shoulders) at a more reasonable price point. Has anyone seen one in person? hows the waterproofing?

Hi there! Not sure if I’m allowed to comment on this but for full disclosure I am one of the team behind Leader Equine. You probably won’t get much feedback on this forum due to us only having launched for the Australian Fall/Winter in March this year and we are only just starting to reach out to northern hemisphere countries now (we’re launching our spring collection in Australia very shortly). I can hand on heart say the waterproofing is awesome. You can have a read of the reviews on our site, we’ve been so delighted with how our customers have taken to the blankets.

It is a different fabric to the Rambo Optimo so that may impact your choice. We use a quality 1200d Ripstop polyester - we chose to work with a fabric factory who do an excellent job so we could have a lightweight yet durable fabric that won’t get super heavy when it’s wet.
Hope this helps
Thank you

Me, too. I love the Rambo front closure. If this were similar, but lighter weight, I’d try it.

Is there a timeline for getting products back in stock? This is the time of year when people starting making orders and it looks like most things are out of stock and the 0g sheet isn’t up as an option any more.

I’m alllllll about the v snap front, too. The only blankets I’ve found with it other than Rambo are Busse, and bought this one last year to try it out:

https://www.equishop.com/en/winter-horse-rugs-up-to-500-gr-or-more/31543-busse-flexible-pro-250-horse-turnout-rug.html

(Here is a 50 gram version and hmmm, I’m not sure if the Flexible Pro comes in a sheet, but they make others that do.)

(Oh they’re on saaaaaaaale!)

Obvs not an Optimo dupe (although I don’t find these Leaders blankets to be like Optimo either? It looks like a pretty standard shoulder dart rather than what Optimo has, all the way to the spine and behind the shoulder) but a very nice alternative to Rambo. I took some pics and wrote about it when I bought it here. And I had no rubs with it, just like Rambo

Thank you for the suggestion. I didn’t think it looked like the Optimo, either.

The leaderequine blanket arrived about a week ago, it appears to be well constructed and has a lot of thoughtful features- The shoulder darts are definitely larger than weathabeeta, though not quite as large/high as the optimo. The gussets also have the material on the outside of the blanket (giving the illisuon of horses wearing the “elephant ear” style breaches!) the front closure system is a little cumbersome- but in a field full of young geldings it may be super helpful! we haven’t had rain, so I cant comment on the water proofing yet

I’ve never added something to my cart more quickly. I hope these work. I’ve been having the surcingles shortened on Amigo XLs and Optimos because that’s the only thing I’ve found to be generous enough in the shoulder while moving without cutting into the withers when my horse grazes. Fingers crossed!

I also got some of the Busse blankets. I got the Plus cuts (for larger horses) the neck opening is not quite as generous as the Amigo XL. They are nice blankets and maybe an excellent option for anyone with a horse that isn’t so large that needs the extra room of the Amigo XL.

I would really like to have a 50 gram for my horse that doesn’t strangle him when he’s grazing but it’s been a bust so far. The Amigo XL and SP Oversize blankets don’t come in that weight unfortunately.

Following up to see if/when a 0g will be offered? I already have a 50g blanket and would like a true sheet.

@4BranchFarm, how do you feel about the pressure on the top of the wither? The Rambo seems to have a bit of pressure… maybe it just can’t be avoided on a high withered horse.

it doesn’t feel egreious- no worse than my optimos, but better than my amigo xl’s, schniders, or weathabeetas

Hey, if the 0g comment is for the leader equine rugs, that will be in stock in approx 3 weeks maybe less.

Do you know when the 50 gram 84” will be back in stock?

Unfortunately not for your winter, it will be back March 2025 but will be stocking for both winters going forward.

I appreciate your response! I like that it’s a lighter color. Good for sunny but cool days! I’ll keep an eye out for it next season!
