I just bought a 6’ Timberwolf leash in purple.
All I can say is Wow!
I’ve been admiring it in the small “dog boutique” in Rockport every year for the past 3-4 years, and have never been able to justify spending $24 on it. This year I sprung for it, and have never been so satisfied w/ a leash in my life, and my previous leashes have been very high quality too (including one from Mendota Products which has been my go-to for the past several years).
I took my dog on a walk this morning, and the handle was so comfortable, when she pulled(99% of the time, as I lost her pinch collar a while ago and have just ordered another one, should be here in a couple days) I could barely even tell she was pulling. Granted, she was off-leash most of the time as we were on our private beach and it was early. The traffic handle came in great handy when we had to pass an obviously aggressive dog.
Plus, the colour is just beautiful!
I’m one satisfied customer.
What do you use in the way of leads/leashes? Something cheap and easy from Wallyworld, or something more fancyshmancy?
ETA: I’m so pleased w/ them I just ordered her a Timberwolf collar in red as well.
I had gotten our Dane this one, Bison Pet Rad Nylon Dog Leash, because it has awesome fluorescent colors. But in looking it up, it appears that the leashes I had purchased for our other dogs are the same brand, Bison!
Two of the three leashes are very flexible but will not slip when you need to clamp you hand. The third leash is still a bit stiffer than I would like, but otherwise works really well.
Those look nice!
I’ll have to check these out, we’re still searching for the perfect leash. Tried the standard web leashes, rope, flexi…did have one for a while that was elastic but not strong enough to keep my heavy pullers from just pulling it tight, reducing it to basically a normal web leash. Should try another one now that we use the gentle leaders (my perfect collar fyi, if you have a puller, these are amazing).
Our problem tends to be more that leashes get chewed up if left where a certain pup can get to them

i have actually sent to Lupine and had leashes replaced bc of chewers. ( once i knew the dogs were chewers, i took precautions) leashes are very comfy. soft and padded. i also chose these bc the clip at the end is very strong and does not break easily, like other leashes clips can.
Lupine is a long time standard in our household. My fancy ones come from Hogan leather and Stibbar
I looked at all those leashes and they all look quite lovely. I really like the look of the Stibbar ones! Might have to invest in one of those as well…maybe …problem is I don’t know when I would ever use it. Are they durable?
Just browsing through and saw this thread. I freaking love my leash.
It’s a multi-function leash similar to the ones they use for guide dog puppies (I had the hardest time finding a least like this for my dog). You can modify the length and both ends snap, making it easy for a quick tie down, or whatever.
The one I have is by a brand called Rogz. I’ve had it for 10 years now? Through two dogs. It’s reflective and very strong and will probably last me another ten years.
I like the Lupine ones - in large part because they’ve happily replaced ones my dog chewed through!
Am I boring? I like leather and have to have a rolled handle. I have a basic 4 foot leash from Perri’s that you can get from Smartpak.
Those leashed with what seem to be key rings attached–is that what that is? So the leash always goes around with a spare house key?
I use a 6’ long beta leash. I think I last ordered from these guys:
http://www.bigblackhorse.com/BBH01/dogs/leashes-and-collars.html
They’ve got a great, solid heft, are easy on your hand and–being beta–I don’t care if my dogs drag them through the mud.
I have braided paracord leashes, made to order by my spouse.
A 3-strand braided lead is very strong, yet small and light enough to wad up and stuff in your jeans pocket. I like to put a small brass snap at each end of the lead, which makes it easy to tie off to something without unsnapping from the collar. This is great for those times when you need a few minutes of “hands-free” time while your dog is with you.
Google “paracord dog leash” and you’ll see hundreds of styles, colors, and do-it-yourself instructions. They’re not hard to make if you have a little patience, and the materials are cheap.
I also use Lupine leads.

I like all the color options and like you, love the multi-function.
We raise puppies for Guide Dogs for the Blind, Inc. and I am spoiled by their convertible leather leashes. The leather softens quickly and is so comfortable to the hand. Through an easy combo of snaps and rings it can be 5’, 4’ or 30" long. Anyone can order from GDB.

I have had leather, nylon, fancy & not, but I have gone to Biothane for every day and love them.

Those are SO cool! The similar leather ones look pretty nice too.

Not boring at all! Leather is a very nice option, especially w/ a rolled handle. I do personally prefer 6’ leashes though. =)
Yep, those are key rings on the leashes, so you can have a spare house key on there if you wish. Kinda neat feature. I won’t be using mine as I don’t have a key to my parents’ house, and I don’t think a key EXISTS for the house I’m living in.
I have a couple of the Timberwolf leashes as well, and as supafly mentioned, they do come with key rings. I take them off of my leashes, as I used to use mine as agility leads. I have the very thin ones, and they worked really well for me at trials, as I could clip them to the collar if I kept one on the dog (usually for the green dogs) or, by clipping the clip back around the leash itself, it works well as a slip leash. The padded handle is really nice, especially when you’re working with an excited dog who’s pulling to get into the ring before the run and pulling to get back to the crate (where the cookies are) after the run.
At least one lives in my agility gear bag, as a backup, or to lend out if somebody needs to borrow one.
For rally and obedience, I have very thin round (not rolled) leather leashes that I love, but they’re for competition and formal training only - they’re too dear to use everyday.
I have a few nice fleece and nylon custom martingale leashes for agility for the “pro” dogs, who have earned the right to run naked.
For everyday, I’ll use whatever comes to hand first - I have a neat custom two/three dog leash from 2dogleash.com if I need to take more than one dog out at a time, a nice squishy slip leash if I’m only dealing with one and we’re not going far, and a multitude of nylon ones hanging from the leash rack next to the door. I even have one of those heavy duty surgical rubber tubing ones that I use when I’m feeling lazy and don’t want to deal with the big dog pulling (he still pulls a bit, but there’s less impact for me when he hits the end).
I also have a few leashes that I’ve knitted out of various materials - they’re kind of fun because they’re so customizable, but I really only use the one that I knitted out of nice cotton yarn.
OP, the Stibbar leashes are very nice, but feel SUPER soft to me - they feel great in your hand, but might not be sturdy enough to hold up to a large dog who pulls. They are very pretty, though, and I love the custom colors…
I’ve got a lease and a collar from here:
http://www.cycledog.com/product/green-max-reflective-leash/
Not adjustable, but they are stretchy and they’re recycled! Also, they have bottle openers on them. Which is very useful when you live in Texas and your dog accompanies you to the local ice house.
The collar is great too - doesn’t get stinky and it washes up nicely.
Lupine as well. I love the leashes and that they will be replaced for free, even if the dog chews it.
