Leather halters

I’m starting a new thread on leather halters, I’m looking for a budget friendly leather halter.

Caveat is I need something to fit large ponies/arabians so it needs to be a cob or smaller cob.

Any suggestions? Needs a double buckle crown and a throat snap.

What is your version of budget friendly? And what kind of quality do you want/need?

The Dover Saddlery Suffolk/Crown leather halters are super budget friendly and have a snap throat and buckles on each side… I have some that are six and seven years old, been outside in NE in 24/7 weather and just don’t die. That being said I think they’re horribly hideous right out the bag, but my barn mates love them and they really are indestructible.

I don’t like halters with the hanging o-ring at the chin strap, so I prefer english-chin style halters (like below). Totally preference based and not as budget friendly.

My show halter is a Perry’s and it’s just stunning in person. It was not cheap ($150 MSRP) but SO won it in a raffle. They come in pony and cob sizes.

If you wait until closer to Christmas, Dover’s Suffolk and in-house brands always go on sale for half their list price and you can get one of those halters for $20.

I’ve gotten sale halters from Tack Shack of Ocala several times and they have been easy to work with each time.(https://www.tackshackocala.com/3040.html)

I also loved SmartPak’s old halters when they were US made. They no longer sell the ones I’m thinking of, but I suspect they were from Bartville Harness, and they were still in the 2020 Bartville catalog. They’re about the same price as Tack Shack of Ocala.

I go to Quillin for halters and have never been let down. Beautiful pieces that hold up very well. Not cheap–IIRC about $85 each? But if you need a custom fit, they’ll take care of that for you.

The best and most affordable (it’s crazy how cheap they are and how good the quality is) are these Berlin Triple Stitched Leather Halter’s that Riding Warehouse out of CA sells. I promise, you will not be disappointed. So glad I gave them a chance long ago…https://www.ridingwarehouse.com/descpage.html?pcode=BCLTSH

Great new company in Ocala area that just released some very beautiful but affordable leather halters and bridles. Company is called Leopold Cole. https://leopoldcole.com/
Really nice quality and a great way to support a new local biz! Plus the bridles comes with reins and rein stops!

I used to have a Perri’s halter I was very happy with. I actually still have it (I just don’t use it) and it’s still in great shape.

This has the double buckles and a snap. They have a bunch of options in different price points/configurations.

I’m Team Quillin 100% for new halters going forward. I got my first one last summer, and the quality is MIND BLOWING. Including shipping mine was like $115-$120, which isn’t really budget friendly but if you’re looking for a really nice quality halter, I would definitely check them out. They have a ton of sizing options and can do fully custom if you need.

Beautiful but at $250 for a bridle not what I’d call budget friendly, also, the halters don’t come in cob.

Hello enjoytheride! Thank you so much for visiting our website  We are a new company and also have a foundation to give back to the horse community (check it out :)) Our Bridles are comparable to the $550 bridles which is why we say Premium Savings and as Tini_Sea_Soldier1 so generously pointed out they come with rubber reins and Martingale stoppers which most bridles don’t. Our Pony size halters fit all sizes of Pony small to large and our horse size halters would fit a large cob as they are more of a contoured fit. We offer FREE shipping as well. Please accept this coupon code for you and anyone else reading this thread or friends you want to share it with BESTCUSTOMER21 for $20 off your order. We would love to earn your business! Please email me directly at admin@leopoldcole.com for any questions www.leopoldcole.com

I’m looking for something I can turn out in, and then something I can take to lessons/shows. I’m thinking no more than $60 for the “show” halter.

I have Bartville’s Ebay store bookmarked!

I just bought one of these, in a horse size, for $40, plus $9. shipping and was very pleased with the quality. Pretty much indistinguisable from the $80 halters.

He also has a website, but ordering off FB has better pricing.

Crazy! There were 4 in stock when I posted it lol

I’ve looked at these and they are $60, so I assume the price went up.

Thanks for posting about this company. I’m bridle shopping right now.

It’s a brand-new company, so I’d contact them and mention that you’d like to see more in cob-size.

Also, I haven’t found a bridle that was of any quality for less than $350, so I definitely would call it budget friendly in today’s market, particularly if it includes reins, which is usually almost $200 in itself separately.
