Let's See Some Photos! (and what are your goals for the year?)

Hey everyone! I’m having so much fun in this forum, and I’d LOVE to see some photos of you guys’ horses! (I’m a photo loving horse nerd, not gonna lie…)

Also, since we’re coming up on the first of the year (eeeek!) does anyone have any goals they’re shooting for this year?

This is my two year old Huntin For Chocolate filly, and we’re hoping to get some miles this year at a few of the local shows.

The only place on the internet that I post pictures is on my Facebook page.

The only real goal I have for the upcoming year is to ride more. Life really got in the way of my riding for most of 2014 and killed my 2014 showing plans almost entirely (I only made it to one show). But, I’m optimistic that 2015 will be better.

Your filly is a cutie pie.

Hmmm. Here is Luke near Bryce Canyon a few years ago:

And hunting in Wyoming:

And here is Bo up in the mountains a few summers ago:

Oh, here’s the pair of them, they were the token horses at a Llama Fun Day in the neighborhood.

Still at llama day, had the pair saddled up but on a break I hobbled them so they could graze, but they preferred to just nap by the trailer.

Goal for the year, well just ride as much as possible. Maybe get to a Buck Brannaman clinic and more backcountry camping and a bit of team sorting.

My horse and I are going to try riding across Michigan on the September Shore to Shore trail ride. I retire this year and it’s on my bucket list. Not sure how the horse is feeling about it, but he’ll usually up for a challenge.

Foxglove. I must hear about this. I would do it…off to search for a website

Th![](s is my guy, two years ago:

And I can’t remember when this was taken, last spring I think:
[IMG]http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff2/agonyaw/Public%20Album/JadePhoto2_zps12f5ff87.jpg)

He’s foundation bred, with some cutting and reining mixed in, but nobody special. The only names I recognize on his pedigree were Peppy San Badger (which is where I think he gets his tendency to buck ), Doc Bar, and Driftwood.

He was started on the barrel pattern last spring, here are a few photos:

[IMG]http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff2/agonyaw/Public%20Album/TNT9-21-2014_zpsc4d547ba.jpg)

[IMG]http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff2/agonyaw/Public%20Album/Grafton8-24-20144_zps733c41b6.jpg)

The goal this year is to get him in shape before snow is melted  and to get him on a CONSISTENT barrel pattern. I would also like to take him to a few open shows and get a decent lope on the rail out of him. So basically, I haven’t really made up my mind yet! LOL!

But I do know that my biggest goal is just to RIDE HIM.

Griffyn --did you find the web site? http://www.michigan.org/property/michigan-shore-to-shore-trail-michigan-trail-riders-association/

I really want to do this. DH is 100% against it --but I’ve been married almost 40 years and this is the first time I’ve wanted to do something just for ME. I have everything I need at this point --rig, good horse, equipment. I plan to hire a rig jumper/camp cook to move my rig each day and set up camp and cook. Maybe the person will have horse experience and be able to take care of the horse to some extent too --and if they have a license in Massage Therapy --that’d be a bonus! I’m going in September, but there are 4 rides a year. Step 1. Join the Michigan Trail Riders Association. Step 2. Ask a lot of questions . . .

Well, seems that every time I make some goals, someone else shoots them down for me, to the point I am afraid now to make any.

In the past 11 years now, I ended up having 9 different medical/surgical problems, goofy ones too, like scheduling for shoulder surgery as one spur was cutting a bicep tendon practically in half, five days before that surgery, having a gall bladder attack and ending up in gallbladder surgery instead.

So, I am NOT having any goals, will ride it as it comes, but yes, maybe I can get back to training some soon.

Right now I just have two ranch horses at home, early and mid teens, that don’t mind being pasture ornaments and being ridden lightly to work cattle here and there.

I am going to continue with local shows, judged trail rides and obstacle courses, and also get my horse qualified for the volunteer mounted patrol with the park ranger services.

I am a photo fanatic as well!

I’ve got two geldings, Red (8) and Shotgun (3). For Shotgun, my goal is to be loping a nice barrel pattern by the end of next year, and also be showing (locally) in hunter under saddle. For Red, my goal is to be doing solid flying lead changes and spins in our reining patterns, and to more consistently be in the 2D in barrels at jackpots and consistently be .5 to 1 second off the winners at amateur rodeos.

Here’s Red:

Woot woot, another helmet-wearing barrel racer!

Your gelding Red is a BEAST! Love it!

Your gelding Red is a BEAST! Love it!
Thanks!

Beast indeed! He is in-between 15.1 and 15.2 and he weighs around 1,250 when he is in shape (which means he is even bigger when he’s not in shape, haha).

I think my 3-year-old is going to grow into just as big of a beast. He’s already 15.2 hands at 3 years old and really quite “thick”. He fits a full quarter horse bar tree, and of course he’s not filled out yet.

I’m not sure what my goals for the year are. I’ve been focused entirely on reining the past 4 years, and JD and I had a GREAT year this year in the novice classes. That said, life is nuts right now (house renovation) and I just pulled his sliders for the winter. We took our first dressage lesson together on Saturday (my 4th) and I think we might play with that this winter. My goals for this year are simply to keep him sound, keep me sound, and have some fun.

It’s nice to see and hear what people are doing with their ‘western’ horses, and everyone seems to be well-mounted on good looking horses!

I don’t really have any specific goals for the coming year. Mostly, keep putting miles on the 4-yr old I started last year. I enjoy projects and starting my own riding horses, especially bringing babies along. I mostly trail and road ride, and horse camp. Have dabbled in different disciplines over the years, but haven’t done any showing since my DD lost interest. I DO have a future goal of scaling back and concentrating on one or two nice show horses…and dream of qualifying for the World Select QH show. Not sure in what, yet.

Right now, I have four.

Scout, a 4-yr old reg paint, from a couple of months ago. He was a weanling Craigslist bargain. I just liked his color.

Gidget, an 8-yr old reg qh, out of a good mare I had to put down a few years ago. She is pretty nicely performance bred.

Tawny, an 11-yr old reg qh I’ve had since a yearling. She’s about 70% foundation bred.

Gosh I’m loving seeing everyone’s pictures! Such good looking (and fun!) horses everybody has.

LOL! I wish we could magically make it possible to all do a group trail ride, there is some spectacular scenery in some of these photos!

My main riding horse is a 4-year-old (will be 5 next May) gelding, that I bought as a 2-year-old with 30 days training on him. He is super laid back, and a tad lazy, which has made it easy for me to bring him along with the help of a trainer.

I showed him as a 3-year-old at American Stock Horse Association shows with moderate success. This year, I branched out and have begun showing Ranch Horse Pleasure at AQHA shows.

Here is a picture from a show this past August.

And two pictures from a show this past weekend (our first time showing one handed!!).

My 2015 goals are to continue to focus on training and to get him in the show pen more so we can both get comfortable. And, if I can get our lead changes and spins worked out, we may try a little reining.

Edited to add… we like to chase cows, too! Unfortunately, there are not many places to work cows around here.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v160/wicherd/SHODNov2_13_1_zpsfda93f33.jpg

He looks very determined in the cow picture!

Great pics of everybody/horses. My goal is to get the Morgan ready for endurance in 2015.

Pictures will follow after I figure out my new computer. I think it needs to be de-wormed.
