Let's talk (more) about the adult equitation

Thanks, Janet. Confirmed my thoughts. I’m sure we’ll set up a game plan, which will help me figure out what I need to join and what Toby needs a number for. I can’t for the life of my remember if I got his registration done…I kinda think not. I think the form was sitting on the desk, waiting to get faxed the day I got hurt. Oops (Also have to remember at some point to get to my ortho and pick up the letter they wrote for the USEF MONTHS ago, telling them my head was not involved so I can actually compete in a USEF competition again!).

I have a lesson scheduled on Monday, so I’m sure equitation boot camp shall commence. And I’m going to switch out my composite stirrups for my fillis irons. Whoooooaaaaa…

Had my lesson today (ass = kicked) and chatted about what to plan for next year. She suggests picking three medals (VHSA being kind of a “duh”), and then sorting it from there. Regarding things like the Ariat, she told me that she has 2 other riders who are talking about adult eq and she THINKS that if they get their act together in time for next year, she says that if she shows up with all of us, the class will fill. Yes? No?

She also really likes the Oak Ridge Medal (which Renn, I think, mentioned to me last fall), has coached riders that have done it, and thinks I will enjoy it. However, we’re concerned about WHERE we’ll have to go for that (it’s a Southwestern VA thing, so may be cost prohibitive for qualifying.

She likes the M & S but worries that the finals (HITS Saugreties?) may be too costly for me.

She likes the idea of the Mid Atlantic Equitation Festival and thinks it might be fun to try for THIS year. Not sure I can get my s**t together enough, but I’m looking!

Any thoughts on all of this? And any sources for decent sheepskin contour pads?

The Oak Ridge Medal Final is a blast and if you can find a way to get to it, I would highly recommend it. It’s a lot of college kids, but it’s essentially a mini-USET. I wish we had something similar up here. I’d love to do it again.

I think all you have to do to get in to the MAEF is win something this year, so why not try?

Looks like you have some fun plans! You don’t need an actual sheepskin contoured pad. But if you decide to go that way I would go with the Mattes hunter pad. Otherwise just get one of the fleecy contoured show pads like Medallion. Have fun!

This is my go-to hunter pad.

Let me know if you’re coming over to PGEC next year. I will bring Lincoln and we can have a good old fashioned ride off in the MHSA adult medal

I actually think synthetic pads looks nicer than the actually sheepskin. Brighter white and sharper looking!

The problem is Toby needs the sheepskin. He’s a delicate little flower! Trust me. I rather not by yet another expensive sheepskin pad (or two).

Make the trip to the VA Horse Center for the Oak Ridge at the House Mountain shows – which also offer some VHSA and TB classes.
Oak Ridge used to be totally worth doing at Randolph Macon, but (dating myself a tiny bit), I have no clue what that place is like without JT Tallon.

If you get the shaped Mattes hunter pad you’ll only cry once.

I got another brand it wasn’t nearly as pretty and then it did not hold up although it was almost as much as the Mattes.
