If your horse had fistulars then you should know that if she had it and was only given bute what state the horse would be in now, months later. The horse will certainly not be up to doing groundwork other than learning how to stand still for injections.

You have been clearing both accounts. While nobody, who has not read original posts, can tell, what kind of info was there (if not captured), they can tell, when the accounts were adjusted. Of course, some of us just remember, what we read before adjustments.

I feel so sorry for that horse. With your care, we can all just about light a candle for her.

I went online only tonight to read a bit about “chronic fistulous withers,” which is how you called it in the Fall of 2014.

I find it quite telling, I learnt more about it with one click than you in half a year of opportunity to search an Internet.

Yes bute powder Phenylbutezone. A pain killer that reduces inflammation. It is not an antibiotic.

??? I cleared it a while ago, and then tonight I added a smiley face, so people wouldnt still think it was still open???since they don’t delete the posts. I wish you would just ask the moderators since you don’t believe me-I am not wish and my friends mare is getting all the care she needs.

so then why did the vet prescribe it for her mare? It is an anti-flammatory which is what the vet gave me too for my friends mare.

Wow, I didn’t realize that the horse wasn’t getting antibiotics. How does she think an infection gets resolved without antibiotics? And yes, now the infection is spreading to her back. And all she’s getting is bute for the pain. Oh, and inflamation. The inflamation is the surrounding tissue which is inflamed by the infection. Bute doesn’t resolve the infection. Talking to a wall, here.

a dun mare that i keep for a friend, and my own gray mare named cowgirl.the dun is wonder. She is a wonderful horse although i cant ride her since she is recovering from fistolous withers Me and cowgirl go on rides together and are pursuing a barrel racing career-lots of work.haveing fun though!

Has a horse named Cowgirl. And another one with a fistula! And can’t afford a trainer! And, thinks we all have fabulous rich spreads with trainers at our beck and call! But not Whish.

Get.a.GRIP Kate. I have been away and off of my computer until I replied at first, this being my third post for ALL of this evening. Shall I look up horse-profiles on this forum and find a biography that only halfway matches yours, (BTW I am not NEARLY the only person who owns a dapple!!) and claim falsely that you are posting from “multiple accounts” ? Pleeeaase , I have much much much better things to do than “multi-account”…such as hp out and hang around with my horses when the weather ismt holding out for a nice romp around the pasture or trail ride up our mountain ,or going out our lane. About the “fabulous spreads with trainers at beck and call”, I didnt say that either, I said :“Iam not one of those fortunate ones that have a trainer actually around”. We should give it up. She’s in denial that a fistulous wither is an infection. She’s just going to treat it with an anti inflamatory! And, Gosh, now her back is sore and the horse doesn’t want her to touch further along her back. Gosh, what can THAT be? Prolly needs more bute.
