Like father like son - shameless brag

Today concludes the Re![](ion 5 dressage championships. I watched some impressive horses this weekend. I was not there to compete. It’s been more than 2 years since my last recognized competition. So what do I have to brag about you say? Well, I took the opportunity to take my 4 year old welsh cob to his first real outing at a show. I decided since my life has been too hectic to bring him along like my others, to suck it up and take him to the regionals to school and be exposed to the ‘atmosphere’. This guy is the 4th generation of my program. He is by my former (now owned by my daughter) stallion and out of a cherished mare. He is 4 and appears to be ‘ready’. I am hoping to show him next month now that he’s established that he’s got the mind as well as the gaits I was striving for with my program. He rode along the big horses of all levels and didn’t bat an eye. Few things bothered him and he just took it all in stride. There is nothing better than to plan/breed/deliver/watch develop/back and start your own imo. I sold the others I produced but held this one back and I’m so thankful I did. His sire really stamps his get and this guy did not disappoint. Thank you Tamara of TN for the program we sought out to develop, loved, worked hard for and finally I have an opportunity to reap the benefits by simply enjoying the journey with what may be my last go. We’ll see how far this guy can go.

Here is Junior

As you can see I’m very proud of Annwylid Dare to Dream, 4 year old section D welsh cob gelding. BTW the pics of ‘Pop’, Pro A Resolute are from a few years ago. He is still the bomb too

Lovely!

What a nice youngster to work with.

You both look great and so, so much like Pop, double treat.

Thank you both. There are full siblings but I’ve lost track of their owners. All of them look like Pop. The dam was a good one. Wish I wasn’t forced to sell her a couple of years ago because she definitely was one of my best. Fortunately I still have breeding rights so who knows maybe one more some day. If not, I hope Junior can go all the way. Only time will tell.

YAYYYY!!! Congrats on Junior . . . and I love those photos of Resi - he is so stunning!

I sent you an email today because Annwylid D’Lite (exvet’s “Pop” Pro A Resolute above) did a horse show today and made her Training level debut with Tests 1 and 2 and won both her classes!

You and Tamara in TN have done a fabulous job with your plan and execution for breeding wonderful amateur ponies!

My pony, aka Princess Fancy Pants, aka Pony, is so chill about the whole horse show experience. I’ve only done one show per year (Intro in 2016, small h/j in 2017, Training today) and from the very beginning she was totally mellow, unfazed by show stuff, doesn’t need any “prep” (lunging) - just groom, tack up, and get on and go!

Thank you, exvet and Tamara in TN, for creating such a great program with wonderful ponies!

And congratulations on Junior - I’m excited to see how he comes along!

(I’ll be emailing you some videos soon)

Congrats to you too! That is terrific. Junior will be showing training level at a schooling show in 2 weeks and then at the recognized show in November. We’ll see if he’s able to do as well as big sis. You are exactly what T and I hoped would appreciate our blood, sweat and tears. We both know that the dreams aren’t realized if they don’t fall into capable hands. If my daughter is available, I hope to be able to share some shots/video of Junior in the future. I am so looking forward to the videos of PFP.

OP, he is adorable. Love his solid build and Pop sure does stamp his children. Gorgeous! Lucky you.

@Pocket Pony - congratulations! Give Miss FP a carrot for me.

Thank you Shiloh. I hope Pocket Pony posts the video of PFP at the show. She is the spitting image of her sire and did a great job this weekend. I dare say all of Pop’s get are substantial like a pure or part bred welsh cob should be

That last picture trotting is so nice.
You can almost feel him gliding under you and his mouth softly in your hands.

I bet he is a wonderful ride.

He is a nice ride but he does have his pony moments. I bred him to be a true welsh cob and that includes pony character. For the most part he is very very easy. We’ll see how he does as the work gets harder. : )

Just makes life more interesting, does it.

Ok, I’ll share - didn’t want to hijack your thread!

Here is Training 1 - we got a 69.348%

Here is Training 2 - we got a 70.577%

I actually was not pleased with our warmup so planned to just go in and have good geometry. But once she stepped into the arena (we got an 8.0 on our entry in T1!), I knew it would go well. We won both our classes, which was just a bonus.

I think the judge liked her because some things I didn’t think we did as well with as we have done in lessons recently, and I would have scored myself lower. But I’m not the judge.

Showing is much more fun when you have a trusted partner, that’s for sure. I’ve shown off and on my whole life. I don’t get nervous anymore since Pony because we have a good partnership and she is as steady as they come. No shenanigans, no spookiness (event while the jet sounds like it is going to land on us in T2), no prep, never needs to be “lunged down” even in a new place . She is business and wants everyone to know how cute she is!

Really, I’m so very very thankful to have her. She’s my first mare. exvet’s breeding produced the perfect ammy pony.

Very nice! What cute youngsters (both exvet and pocket pony’s.)

Pocket Pony, have you ever run into Annwylid Melia? I sold her to a lady in Oregon but other than to say she arrived and got what she was expecting/wanting I haven’t ever heard another word. She is a full sibling to Junior. She too had a VERY business like demeanor and knew she was hot stuff. It would be nice to know how she’s doing now. She was foaled the same spring as PFP. Oh and she too looks just like Daddy except her star looks like a lightening bolt and markings on legs are more like Junior’s (in case she’s showing under a different name).

No worries on hijacking the thread. I am just as proud of you and PFP as I am of Junior. Might have to dig into the archives of my collection and see if I can find the videos of Pop’s training level show debut - again, a lot of similarities but I do believe PFP was a wee bit more relaxed in her tests, LOL…

exvet, when we were warming up on Sunday, a trainer was in the arena and she said she had a pony at home that should do a pas de deux (sp?) with Pony…they look just alike! She said she was the same cross as PFP!!! I got so excited and started asking her questions to see if possibly it was Melia, but she said this pony was only four and she didn’t know where it came from. Sigh. She said she had more white on her legs than PFP and I thought I remembered pictures of Melia with a darker coat and having no socks…

But I do always keep her in the back of my mind in case I run into her one day!

Hey thanks PP. You are right- she was darker, like Junior. She did have two white hind coronary bands but not much more than that other than her star and snip. Given the fact that Cardi and Rezi (Pop) share some of the same bloodlines a few generations back I would suspect that the similar breeding is either welsh cob (of their genre) or morgan. Melia’s gaits would most likely stick in someone’s memory more than her looks except for the fact that I suspect she’s built like a brick sh!thouse. Her brother and sister are a wee bit more refined (well as refined as a welsh cob can be and still be a welsh cob LOL).

So Jun![](or and I went to a schooling show yesterday and we rode training level tests 1, 2, & 3. I must confess that we’ve never ridden the tests before yesterday; but, I’ve ridden many training level tests in the past. Considering we weren’t as prepared as many there and it was his show debut, we didn’t do too badly. Now our scores are pitiful compared to big sis and we have some work to do on our canter and canter departs; but we managed to improve our scores with each test ridden, starting with a 63 on our first test and ending with a 65 and change for training level test 3. Junior pleased the crowd well enough that I think we may have sold a breeding to Pop  I hope to get a video uploaded but until I do these pics will have to do.

Congratulations, that’s awesome! He’s so handsome! Looking forward to seeing more!

Such a handsome work in progress, good for you to keep doing well.

Congratulation for a nice start.

Awesome pictures.

Thank you, both. I have to give kudos and credit to my daughter and her boyfriend. They came out to read my tests and take pics and video with my phone. I appreciate their time very much. There are multiple areas where we have homework to do (canter depart, canter, establishing true connection and no ducking behind the contact, yada, yada, yada); but, it’s at least a step in the right direction.

This was our first test of the afternoon. By test 3 he was far more relaxed and gave me a really nice stretchy circle at the trot. My daughter and her boyfriend asked if I wanted it video taped and I said no but now I wish I had since the judge personally commented to me that there was much improvement and lots of promise. Oh well, I know it rode well. It’s all about feel anyway right?
