Here’s the infamous thread: http://www.chronofhorse.com/forum/showthread.php?27827-New-Dover-Catalog-Cover-Photo

Lots of laughs!
Wait, I want to see a picture of the actual Dover cover! Someone had posted on the thread that the kid on the cover would go on to be a equitation star…

I think this was it: http://www.phelpsmediagroup.com/photography/thumbs/000546.jpg

How 'bout someone posting a link to the current pic so the rest of us can tell what you’re talking about?

edit: whoops - I see I’m about 5 comments behind on the thread… SHould have jumped back to page 1 before posting…

Janeway, yes, that was it.

Almost exactly nine years ago, so she would have been about eight years old at the time. Remarkably, she managed to overcome her terrible start and become a halfway decent rider.

And, because I’m procrastinating, the photo in question: http://www.phelpsmediagroup.com/photography/thumbs/000546.jpg

Thank God 8-year-old Lillie didn’t find that thread and decide to quit riding altogether!
Lillie did know about what was said and it was hurtful.

I’m sorry to hear that, and I’m glad she was able to put it behind her.

It amazes me the things people will say online. I can’t imagine they would say the same things to someone’s face.

That’s unfortunate. I’m sure it was. Hopefully now, if she reads it, she can go back and see that plenty of people were already lauding her as a future equitation (and then some) star.

Best thing I’ve read all day!!! Hilarious.

(what is hilarious is that COTH was such a cat fight almost a decade ago, not the fact that they were debating Lillie’s equitation when she was EIGHT good lord…)

Here’s the article with the current pic:

http://www.chronofhorse.com/article/less-more-lillie-keenan

For those who may not know how to find some of the more “interesting” :lol: COTH threads from the past, this is how to do so;

When you select a forum you will see a dark gray box at the top. In the box, on the left you’ll see TITLE/THREAD STARTER. On the right, still within the gray box, you’ll see REPLIES/VIEWS. If you “click” on replies it will take you to the COTH threads on that particular forum that have had the most replies (and the same for views).

There are some real doozys!

Beware though, some of the threads are very long and it may be difficult to look away!

I just watched the video of her 2013 Maclay ride off, which was amazing - very tough equitation course, made to look like a flowing hunter round. No visible adjustments at all.

I was looking for another vid, another big eq work off, without stirrups, where there was a halt in the middle of a four stride line which she executed beautifully. (Anyone remember which that was, I’d love to see it again.)

What I love most of all is that the ridiculous old thread, bashing her 8 year old equitation, is still around in the archives for us to re-read and laugh over.

But I am very sad to hear that she, her parents and her trainers saw the thread at the time. Had to have been hurtful, and ruined what should have been a nice experience for them.

Success is the best revenge! Go, Lillie!

Practical Horseman posted a photo of Michael Hughes from last weekend and there are a bunch of ENRAGED commenters picking apart his eq and generally aghast that he got third.

While, granted, it’s not the best pic of his position, I would love to crowdfund an event where all the internet haters could try to ride an eq course from one of the finals and see how successful they are. Hell, let’s even lend them nice horses to do it!

People who say “this person isn’t a good rider/didn’t deserve to pin in an eq class because of this one moment in time” are as bad as people who think riding isn’t a sport because the horse does all the work.

The people that comment on the Facebook posts from PH are a special breed. They are the ones that thought Beezie was making a “grand standing” by being the only one to participate in the victory gallop at WEG from the team medals. They also went on and on about how untrained the three other horses clearly were and had no business being at WEG since they get riled up in a victory gallop and how their riders clearly can’t ride properly. That came from the natural horsemanship Parelli freaks.

Then there are the ones that tear apart Jessica Springsteen on every photograph that gets posted of her by PH. “Her daddy bought her those wins/nice horses, she can’t REALLY ride. She walked into the arena without her horse to get her Open Jumper championship awards, so she doesn’t really care about the horses, she’s just a spoiled rich girl.” It’s only said about her though. Only because she has a famous last name. Nobody says anything nasty like that about Lillie Keenan, Katie Dinan or Paige Johnson who definitely have more money backing them. Jennifer Gates and Georgina Bloomberg get the same treatment as well. Jealously is a horrible thing.

Don’t forget that they think that a rubber bit paired with a hackamore is abusive! Only a rope around the neck or a plain snaffle for all unicorns, please.

Was that posted by PH or COTH? I can’t remember but those people needed a smack with a clue by four!

You’re so abusive Supershorty! How dare you be allowed around horses!

Your event will have to be live streamed for free so the whole world can see it and post comments.

I was also thinking there should be photographers on hand to ensure that every frame is captured and preserved and any tell-tale leg slipping back, etc. can be properly chastised.
