Lisa's Booby Trap

Oh so very sad, she wasn’t old. I wonder what happened. Her story touched so many, she had racing fans from all over. RIP beautiful girl :purple_heart:

The thread should NOT die…

I met and am in LOVE with her son, “Carmie’s Army” here at the Makeover!!!

They made it to the finale Saturday and he is just a truly awesome sport horse. He is for sale and is trained by my friend Chya Johnstone.

He’s a son of Gun Runner and Lisa.

Pic attached. He was phenomenal and is going to be a HELL of a sport horse. Boy can jump and move. He did the eventing as well and finished well.

Pics will be at the links below once they are uploaded, by Monday am we think. (None loaded yet):

His Makeover Sales Page is here:

I truly am telling you all if I could afford and house another horse at his price he would already be figuring out a shipper. Sadly he is priced well for his immense future prosects and I just can’t swing it. But he’s worth every penny!!!

Enjoy!!!

Thank you for letting us know his whereabouts. I wish and hope we get word of the others, Solvent, Silipo, Lisa’s Tale.

He is stunning, but that barn name… blech.

What barn name? That’s his registered name.

Emily

The are calling him “Dopey” in the ad

Gotcha. That was the name he came with. He reminded his connections of the dwarf “Dopey” and honestly it fits him in an endearing way. And he’s a HUGE cuddle monster.

Agreed, “Dopey” is a terrible barn name. But then I remember calling one “Doofy”.

His registered name is Dopey? That’s even worse!

Unfortunately there has been no response to my quest.

I know the owners don’t owe me an update but, when I’m following a horse and it drops off the trail it’s hard not to wonder and worry.

Thank you for following up.

Lisa’s Tale had a 2024 filly by Greatest Honour and she’s in foal to War of Will for this year.

Silipo was last with Alexandra Hillegass. I don’t personally know her but I have heard good things. You could likely get her number through the Charlestown Racing Office, and they still have the digital papers on file there.

Solvent had a work at Three Diamonds Training center in July of 2024. Her papers are still on file at Turfway, so they might be giving her the winter off. Her owner/trainer is running his current string at Turfway now. So he’s active.

Thank You , Em!

Do you have Lisa’s Tale?

Nope. I saw that on Breederscup.com

You can check the mares and their produce/breeding on a site that is correct info, unlike Pedigree Query.

All told, it took me maybe 15 mins of research to get all these answers from:

Equibase
TIP lookup
Jockey Club Registry
Breeders Cup.

Would it help if I detailed what I did to find these answers so others can use the same steps in the future??

Yes! Thank you Em.

Ok Step one…

Look them up on Equibase.

Lisa’s Tale - CLEARLY went straight to broodmare. No starts, Works etc. Given her pedigree I went straight to BreedersCup to check.

Link is here:

https://members.breederscup.com/Eligibility/Foal

Typed in Lisa’s Tale and selected 2024 and then 2025 yob and found the foal from last year and that she is in foal this year.

Next, Solvent.

Looked up in Equibase. She’s a filly by Omaha Beach so it won’t surprise me if they breed her this year but breeding season hasn’t started this year. Look her up, see that she did work in July at a training center. Given that and the likelihood that were it an injury that could be rehabbed, it’d likely put them into winter before healed. And were it a career ending injury, they would also be into winter and/or the breeding sales where she would have a higher value based on her mom. Since her trainer/owner got her cheap and she’s not done much on the track I suspect he’s in it for the long game. She’s a house horse so not costing much and he just had the best year of his life as a trainer. So the other horses may have bought her more time to either try to fix the issues or breed her himself on a foalshare or to a first year stallion.

That’s what I think on her. And I did check the BC website. She was not bred in '24.

Jockey Club Registry still shows her papers with Turfway so not entered in any sales/TB auctions etc.

Silipo -

Hardest one to find… but he was last with a good person who usually has been very responsible about her horses. It really was like this for him. Check Equibase, see he’s gelding. Check TIP lookup: https://tjctip.com/TIPLOOKUP No results found so either still on the track, not in a show home or just not interested in TIP awards.

Double check JC Registry for his status

Papers are still with Charlestown and owner/trainer is based there.

To me the logical next step is to call CT’s racing office and ask for Alexandra’s number and you could ask if the racing office if he’s still on the grounds. He last worked in May, last ran in June at the Allowance level. Placed 2nd in Allowance last March and of course CT has many more levels where he could shift to to bring home a check and he’s only 6. He’s historically rested for the winter other than his first season running. So maybe he had a little issue and they played it safe. As a winner of $164k, doing right by the good horses is how owner/trainers typically work. Also Alexandra only has 1 result and 1 entry right now. I am thinking she prefers to rest her guys in the winter also.
