Lisa finished next to last in a 10 horse field today and was “never involved”, according to the chart.
Ugh.

Ugh.
Silipo’s new connections (he was claimed in his first start) will step him up quickly to the G3 With Anticipation on WED. From a dirt sprint to a turf route in two weeks. Guess we’ll see what he’s made of…
The public didn’t think much of Silipo being put into this spot, making him 40/1 in a six horse field. He ran to his odds and finished up the track.
Hopefully, it’s just poor planning by the trainer.
I was puzzled by this one too. Bruce Brown is usually very conservative in spotting horses but for a winner of a 40k maiden claimer that wasn’t run in a particularly fast (a nice way to say “slow”) time, this just didn’t make sense.
Pressure to enter to fill the field?
Question for those more racing knowlegable than I? Does it make sense after no recent work outs, to do a strong work out 4days before a 2yo race?
So Silipo will again be racing. In what I considder a step down.
He’s entered in a 25K claiming race, race 5, at Parx Racing, at 6-1 odds.
Meanwhile Lisa’s Legacy appears to be on sabbatical.
Silipo went off at 16-1 and won by a neck… now I wish I had bothered to fund my ADW that has 20 cents in it
I see that Silipo is out of the Bruce Brown barn and is being trained by a Parx based trainer named David R White (I’m not familiar with the circuit).
He also had another ownership change a couple starts back…
Was he again claimed?
We may have to have a fundraiser, and someone needs to step up and be the new home!
I would be in for a dribble.
I never quite understand this. The horse ran for a $25,000 claiming price, which for straight claimers at Parx, is the highest level offered. Looks like he’s being campaigned where he can be competitive and if the horse is paying its way and is affordable to its owner, then why does anyone feel the need to pass the hat (which means you can’t afford him on your own) to buy him because of some self-anointed superior moral compass?
I’m OK if you do not understand. And, if your moral compass doesn’t point in this direction, that’s fine, too.
I was indicating that if this horse is coming down in the ranks, then maybe he’ll need a soft landing. I don’t need a non-ASB- I keep my spots available for the horses in my breed of choice. However, I love horses, and have had some awesome TBs. In theory, if the horse drops down, and a group bands together and can place the horse with someone who wants to have a project, that’s a win.
If your theory is that as long as he can go out and “pay his way”, no matter what the level, he should stay racing, then we do not agree on that either. And I am good with that. Your moral compass and you can just keep doing you.
My moral compass is that neither one of us would know this horse if we drove by him in a field, but I’m not going to make an assumption that somehow this horse is in some kind of situation where he needs to be “rescued,” which is what you’re inferring. Looks to me that the owner and trainer are doing right by this horse because they have him in a place where he can be competitive. As far as “coming down the ranks,” let’s just say that for a horse who broke him maiden in a 40K NYB maiden claimer, a 25K nw of at Parx is probably pretty reasonable. This horse is simply not stakes or even allowance caliber and I respect the owner for not continuing to get this horse hammered at those levels. Unfortunately Parx doesn’t have a 25k nw3L going short coming up anytime soon unless an extra appears, so opportunities may be limited until the next book comes out.
I’ll always remember Golden Tent.
Just my 2 cents: if a (thus far) hypothetical group were to put in a claim for a horse, does not at least one person in that group need an owner’s license to do so?
It might not be easy to just buy him outright as long as he’s winning enough to be profitable for his connections.
I am not suggesting that anyone claim him. I am suggesting that it’s possible that he is going to spiral down. If so, that might make it possible to buy him directly. It would be nice if that could happen while he could still have another career. I have no idea of his condition- none. It’s just an idea based upon the love that people had for his Mom, and respect for the horse, in general.
Silipo is now entered in $55000 Starter Optional claiming race at Acqueduct on 1/27.
Seems ambitious.
Silipo came in third. Having watched the race, I’m impressed that he came up on the outside from last into second, and then going outside again challenged the then leader. Sadly they both succumbed to a last minute attack, leaving him in 3rd.
OK Silipo is again entered in a claiming race at Parx on 2/9 This is a 45k Alllowance Optional claiming with a claiming tag of 50K.
