I concur.
I have only watched the course jumping, but some of these horses look pretty tough to ride. Are some borrowed and others the horses of the riders? What is the height of the course? Seems like if it were a little lower it would be easier on some of these borrowed horse combinations. I would really be hesitant to lend my horse for this purpose.
A fair number of them were on borrowed horses. If I were going to take a wild guess, I might say it was about a 50/50 mix.
For the kids who are not already in Wellington for the horse shows, it would be a lot easier to find a horse that is already there instead of dragging a horse to Florida for a few days just for that purpose.
I can see it as sort of a double edged sword. If you have a sale horse that is pretty goof proof, it would be a good way to have a lot of people see it in action. If your sale horse does not go well in that situation, you might be kicking yourself afterwards. Lol.
I love watching Beezie teach, and really loved when she did the riding demo as well in the past years. I could totally do without Anne.
I really enjoy Anne. Also, sheās the most important one for the kids to connect with as the developing team chef.
It looked like Robert Ridland was there the whole time as well. Planning ahead, maybe.
Next year they should embroider the riders first name on the square pad.
Thanks for the perspective. Knowing this, I really give the riders a lot of credit, a lot of pressure riding in front of a live and always critical internet audience, other trainers, owners, and other kids!
I have thought that would be a handy thing, not only for the audience, but also for the clinicians. They could even just put detachable name tags on the saddle pads, like they do with the horsesā names for some IEA or IHSA shows.
They were trying to put the rider names on the screen a few times with graphics, but Iām sure it would be easier to do that if the kidās name was clearly visible. Especially if you have multiple kids on plain brown horses. Lol.
Chronicle write ups from the first two days.
Even with a USEF membership, do I still have to pay for CMH TV? I thought I didnāt last year, but it wants me to this year. I tried to watch last night several times and then gave up.
I think you should be able to watch with your USEF membership, but it often seems to be problematic to get it to work.
Thereās a thread in the technical help forum about how to sign in. Maybe take a look at that and see if it helps.
Itās a disgusting weather day today where I am, so Iām getting a chance to watch some of the clinic. Iām enjoying Beezie very much. I appreciated towards the beginning when she told some of the riders who were watching to stop chatting and pay attention⦠I canāt believe some of these kids would have the opportunity to watch and listen and NOT pay 120% attention!
I also agree that name tags would be such a help for all involved.
Chronicle write up of the third day.
Has anyone seen the compilation from Katie Prudentās session going around on Facebook? Itās clips from her session where sheās being what Iāll generously call abrasive in her teaching style (less generously it could be considered belittling). I didnāt watch her session and the clip is obviously cherry picked. Iām curious what the tone was like overall?
The world is getting way too soft is my opinion
Weāre gonna end up having no people willing to teach this clinic, which is a wonderful, basically free resource for all. Congrats, armchair horse trainers, bettering the sport for everyone .
Last year they picked a clip to pick on Mclain, saying the horse was too low, when for basically the entire demonstration he was explaining that the horse was too low, and what he was doing to fix it.
I am all for tough love, and have used a fair bit of it in my time teaching, and all the respect for Katieās accomplishments but I felt her style and comments at times were abusive and unprofessional. I canāt imagine a world where saying she would āflip the horse overā rather than let him make the turn is acceptable.
Seems Katieās teaching style is just bullying both horses and riders. Anyone who talks about beating horses and flipping them over as ātrainingā is a hard no from me. Disgusting.
Those of us who learned how to ride during Katieās junior years werenāt coddled.
