Liz Halliday

Fantastic news. :heartpulse:

Such good news.

This was so amazing to see. Yay Liz!

Oh thank GOD - when I reopened the thread I was holding my breath, fearing the worst but hoping it was good news - this is fantastic!

:clap::clap::heart:

GO LIZ! What an incredible woman, and what a fighter! Kick on, Liz

I remember being very concerned after Tua’s college career and as he was about to enter the draft because of his college injuries. The fact that he continues to play in the NFL just horrifies me, I think time will show just how devastating these injuries will turn out to be over the long term.

Cooley Quicksilver is for sale. I was a little surprised to see a public ad. I would have thought given his credentials he would be matched with another pro or owner by word of mouth. Unrelated: anyone want to loan me a couple hundred K?

I wish he could stay with Mia! That would be quite the partnership.

I was so excited to see that Mia had the ride. I’m a big fan of hers and think that’s a very suitable pair. Before he went to Mia, Lynn Symansky had him at Rocking Horse - I was excited about that, too.

I wonder if he’s stepping down and that’s why he’s for sale.

What is “low six figures”? Are we talking 100k, or 400k?

By the way unrelated but, where’s the nearest Wells Fargo?

Usually low 6 figures means $100K - $120K. Usually…

Low 6 figures was explained to me as between 100k-300k.

I’m assuming the hospital is expensive and Liz still has bills to pay.

IIRC, Liz had always planned to sell Monster after the Olympics. Let me see if I can find the link again.

Yep, here it is! https://eventingnation.com/eventing-community-rallies-around-liz-halliday/

From the piece, “Liz’s top horses, both Cooley Nutcracker (Liz’s Paris horse) and Miks Master C have been sent to Boyd Martin. Shanroe Cooley and Cooley Galavant were sent to Will Coleman. Other young horses will also be put into Boyd’s and Will’s programs, while Cooley Quicksilver will stay on at the Ocala farm with Lynn Symansky as he is prepared for sale, something Liz had planned to do prior to her accident. Cooley Optimist, a coming 8-year-old, who Liz regarded as one of her top up and coming horses, will be given to Lynn Symanksy to ride.” Bolding is mine.

Not to pick on anything about this particular situation - it just strikes me as a bit disappointing (for me, wanting to see more women at the very top of this sport) that a top female rider has most of her rides go to top male riders. I’m not arguing about “deservedness” or ability - all of these people have different resumes and the owners can do whatever they want!

They pick what they consider the best or the one with the most money. It’s just business, not a social changer. Sorry, I know that’s cynical but that’s way it is.

It looks like Boyd has Cooley Optimist and Shanroe Cooley (who he rode at Devon) now. He also has some of the younger horses in his barn as well (Lamorlaye, Newmarket Cooley, Cooley Kaboom, J’adore Cooley).

It doesn’t look like Miks Master C or Galavant have been back out since last year.

I am not being snarky about Boyd but it is a business and if some of these horses need to be sold, then not only the rider’s ability is considered but also their marketing savvy and internet presence. Which Boyd has in spades besides being a top rider. So that has to be factored into the decisions made. I mean - it is kind of hard not to pull up Boyd’s FB page and not be entertained.

Liz will be a huge loss to the Cooley dealing yard, she really showcased their horses in the US.

I’d say closer to the 100k, he’s 14 years old

I hope to see Mickey out soon, he is one of my fave UL horses.
