Liz Halliday

They did make a response on her eventing page saying “this period of recovery can be slow , meaning we are not going to have as many frequent updates.”

Still vibing for Liz!

I shared a chateau with Liz during the Le Mans 24hrs when she was driving many years ago. I didn’t know her at the time and was introduced through mutual driving friends. I can honestly say she was so nice to me. It was only use two girls amongst a load of boystrous men but laughs and giggles galore we had. I wish her all the best for a speedy recovery, she’s a fighter so i feel sure she will get through this swiftly. Victoria x

Oh man, y’all, read the ignored contact if you can. Some AI bot joined here and said she met Liz when she was a driver at 24 Hours of LeMans (a famous CAR race) and wished her well…

Um, Liz has completed LeMans multiple times. She is also a race car driver. The above poster is legit.

Wishing someone well is never a bad thing.

Argh. I will contact Mods about this. I should have known, since that race is important in my life with DH.

Absolutely, but when they went from near-daily updates to nothing in more than two weeks… I am worried there has been a set back.

I’ve also suffered a TBI, I know plateaus happen in recovery, but no word in so long is generally not good.

FWIW it makes me worried, too.

I am absolutely worried sick about Liz and thinking about her every day. I respect her privacy and just know Liz we are rooting for you every single day! The sport is just not the same without seeing your name on the start list. #KeepfightingLiz

The reality of where Liz went for rehab indicates the severity of the injury. She did not go to a local rehab facility. There are about 20 neurological rehabilitation facilities consistently considered the finest in the US for TBI/Spine injury. She is in the best of hands where she is so we can continue to have hope she will be back doing what she loves.

She’s at an excellent facility in IL, perhaps family can no longer be there daily to provide updates? I hope she continues to heal and make progress. It’s a very long road I’m sure.

Update.

I was coming here to post exactly this! I really do appreciate the updates that are coming through, and I know it’s got to be very hard on everyone involved to determine when it’s most appropriate to provide an update. I’m glad they are sharing as much as they are.

I saw the update too, I think we need to respect their position and just give Liz and her family some space and time…but every now and again let them know we are thinking of her.

I agree. I sincerely hope the family knows that our interest in Liz’s progress is from a place of love and concern.

Like TheJenners, I had a TBI from a jump fall and when fellow horse people are hurt in similar ways, my heart immediately goes to be with them.

Stay strong Liz, family and friends. If anyone can conquer tough things, it’s most certainly a horse girl.

My dad is the survivor of a severe TBI. Like others have said recovery is unique for every person and happens very slowly but I figured I’d offer a little perspective.

My dad was injured in a construction accident by falling 3 stories. He was awake and communicating but slipped into a coma within a few hours. The coma lasted 3 weeks and he spent a total of 6 weeks in the ICU before he was moved to a rehab hospital. It took 10 months total in the rehab hospital for him to relearn how to talk, eat, and walk.

If you met him today (39 years after the accident) you’d have a hard time believing what he’d been through. He’s seemingly “normal” although he does struggle with balance and short term memory. He’s certainly a testament to the incredible healing power of the human body and the wonderful doctors, nurses, and therapists who helped him throughout his recovery.

Sending all my love to Liz and her family.

My mom is currently recovering from a TBI. She was in a coma for a week, intubated, etc. I’m not surprised we’re not seeing as frequent updates regarding Liz.

After the first month or so, I stopped updating people as often on my mom’s recovery. The reality is that she’s on an overall positive trend of recovery, but each day is different. Some weeks, she has a setback, and some weeks, she leaps ahead or stays steady. This is just part of the process. Me withholding updates from people isn’t because I’m trying to hide something bad, it’s just because most people don’t get that a major head injury is a slow process with lots of zigs and zags in that recovery, and I don’t need to also deal with people outside my immediate family freaking out (both negatively and positively) after every little update.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Best wishes to your mom for her recovery.

As stated, I understand all that. But they went from daily or near-daily updates to nothing in two weeks. The one from yesterday could have been done a week out, then another this week; an update about her horses or farm, etc. I run SM accounts as well. I know how it all works. Hence the post expressing concern while also showing respect for privacy.

I had a TBI. I lost a whole three months of my life. I have life-long nerve damage in my face. I had to heal. I get it.
