Didn’t see a replay, but it looked like he got long and flat and was tired and couldn’t keep his front end up out of the way.

Ollie doesn’t sound so sure about the jog up tomorrow.

Now I’m wondering how this 5* works for the U.S. selection for the Olympics. Did not get expected results from some of the best U.S. pairs who didn’t finish.

Part of it is riding under pressure. If you can’t do that you aren’t going to Japan!

He got too close hung a leg. They are adding up the hill instead of attacking because they are scared to ride the corner forward I think. Really a more forward ride up the hill would give a better jump over that log at the top. But you have to be able to ride on a long rein and forward to the corner after.

He slays me :joy:

He said his horse lost a shoe at 7… I’d be a little tentative about how the horse is going to come out in the morning too. Really gnarly course to go around down a shoe and studs.

Wow top 8 are all within a rail of each other - SJ will be exciting tomorrow!

I only saw the last hour (will catch up on the replay), but that’s awful for Boyd, on his most tested partnership, no less. He sat down on the ground twice, and he’s certainly no stranger to injuries. I hope he’s okay for stadium tomorrow.

ETA: He’s slated to be in the 4*, I forgot!

Riding Little Tricky. Beautiful run.

Daniel Clasing was the rider who impressed me: this was the first time I’ve seen him. I thought he rode with balance, rhythmn, confidence and had a good eye for the lines. One to watch.

after two hard falls this morning, i hope that the officials will declare him unfit to ride this afternoon, if he does not voluntarily withdraw.

They’re praising his toughness lol

Catching up with a couple missed posts:

Yes! She went to Michael Pollard first, and then Boyd got her from Michael when he retired (same way he got Tsetserleg).

ETA: Both horses have had the same ownership connection throughout (Christine Turner, of the Holekamp/Turner young horse grant). It’s nice to see. And selfishly for the future I hope it means they have intentions of breeding that lovely mare!

Agreed. It’s because it wasn’t rotational that the MIM clip didn’t give. They are designed to breakaway when the majority of the horse’s force is on the fence - as in, when the horse is rotating over it. They aren’t designed to stop horse falls where they get knocked off their feet and skid on the back side, rather they are designed to stop the horse’s body from being able to rotate all the way up and over the fence (which is the most likely time for the horse to land badly itself, or on the rider, which is when the real damage happens).

Unfortunately if the pins gave to horizontal pressure as well, you’d have to fundamentally change what cross-country riding is. You want the horses to be able to go forward, brush over the fences, and touch them a bit. Ultimately “show jumping” around an entire cross country course would create more problems than it would solve. Frangibles can’t be the only solution available to designers.

True, so…who’s going? Only three Americans in the top 10…

I really hope he scratches the 4* or the officials eliminate him. Disappointing for the owners/connections of that horse but rider safety and wellness has to come first at some point. And selfishly I’d like him to preserve his energy for the 5* SJ tomorrow, especially as it’s an Olympic year.

Isn’t there a rule if you have 2 Es you lose your qualification rating? Not sure if it matters for FEI.

Doug might still have a chance with Vandiver for the Olympics, not the best dressage test yesterday but was only a little over the time today. Probably depends on how it goes tomorrow though.

Shows not over yet right lol

It only applies to the horse, not the rider.
