The 5* was just uploaded, so I’ll be able to catch up with all of you by tomorrow morning. And thank you to whoever is in charge of the video for being so speedy.

So I just saw Boyd’s first fall on Long Island T. Yikes. That looked super-hard, especially since it was on dirt before the ground got soft and sloppy (the only advantage of plowing through the slop).

I sure hope Boyd is Ok & that he doesn’t have a head injury. Are there limits on rider falls & continuing? I understand he is a tough cookie but he has a young family & this is “just a job.”

On Cue & Business Ben have been longtime favorites. I’m sad for their connections.

Boyd’s social media is putting a pretty strong emphasis on his being the top US rider in the 5* with On Cue at this point… I think he’d have to have a major broken bone or internal bleeding to keep him from riding tomorrow.

ETA: Press conference with 4* and 5* leaders on FB live in about 10 minutes.

Yeah it’s also a weird flex considering his other results and that LHS and WC isnt far behind. All of a sudden a US winner isn’t looking so likely.

I would think they would keep any and all issues as tightly under wraps and as quiet as they can up until the last minute.

I am not an eventer, so I have no idea how these things work. Eventing Nation mentioned the possibility of Tamie appealing the penalties she got for bringing down the frangible log. How does that work? And when might we know if she did and what the determination would be?

Can’t see that happening. She can say that it wouldn’t have made a difference in the outcome but… that’s hard to say with the ditch so close on the other side. It sucks because he would have likely been able to scrape over it but that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t have been affected by that.

So the argument that someone would make to potentially appeal the penalties would be along the lines that the deployment of the pin did not alter the horse’s result in comparison to the likely circumstances had it not deployed?

I was envisioning an argument that the deployment of the pin was not the result of the effort made at the jump- so if I’m following your statement correctly that makes more sense as a line to pursue in this case. Though in either case I can’t see it likely as that kind of misread is why I only jump stuff that falls down, and as unfortunate as it was today, I was glad that thing came down too.

While I never mind a good Hail Mary I fully expect any appeal to end with - Frangible pins prevented a crash, lucky to finish this time, better luck next time.

Boyd said in the press conference that he was checked out by a doctor and is good to go. Joked about how he made a point 0f landing once on each shoulder to be even and to avoid his hip and groin injuries from last year. Also said Tim Price is giving him a massage tonight. Said he scratched his one horse in the 4* because he didn’t feel all that great about running him in the first place, then the weather etc. Truth or concealing something that might really be a problem? Guess we’ll know more tomorrow.

Hey, me too! We probably know each other so howdy from across the 'net! A shame to hear about Kimmy, I was rooting for her. Sadly had to do chores just when the 4* started so missed everyone’s rides.

If his hind end had jumped at all, maybe, but his hind end didn’t really even seem to attempt to jump it. I don’t think she’ll succeed at that.

Watching the replay now. Jak My Style is my favorite horse of the day, so far.

Boyd was hurt, any one of us watching the live feed could see that.

he is a professional rider, hoping to get onto the olympic team (again), so i would be surprised if he said he didnt run his 4* horse bc he himself was injured. they apparently need to fake it thru injuries and make up reasons not to run the next horse

i am just glad that he didnt run his 4* horse a couple hours after his second hard fall today

I wouldn’t be critical of Boyd here. He didn’t need to be “injured” to decide after 2 falls it wasn’t his day and running a really tough 4* course in the slop was probably not the best course of action. It’s a good decision, and I could care less what he says or doesn’t say to defend it.

Me either. There’s are argument to be made that had the rail not come down the horse would have slithered backwards for the stop and not forwards. I also think it’s likely that the horse was in better balance on the other side to jump the rest of it than he would have been if he’d slithered forward over it. It’s a good penalty in my book.

Watching the rebroadcast, I saw some mention of confusion as to whether ML was 11 seconds over the time or 1:11 over the time - I guess some confusion over starting times?

Has that been addressed/resolved?
