Lauren Nicholson also didn’t have spurs on, and I think the commentators said Boyd may have skipped them as well? It’s funny how striking it is to NOT see them but I think it’s a great rule change, I’m sure some folks with hotter horses are pretty happy to leave them off!

Does anyone know what time Dom rides? I don’t see him listed in the ride times.

Yes! she has a barn full of students who adore her. AA and Jr’s. She is so hardworking!! check out her brand new website https://www.fyliciabarreventing.com/

anyone know if/when USEF replay will be available? I wasn’t able to watch this afternoon. I am bummed about Vandiver not having his usual great test. He has been on FIRE this spring! If XC is a slug fest, he will be in his element! He is a machine on XC.

Could be anything… that is what works with that horse, or she has an injury that prevents her from holding the rein in the usual way, or…

(I can’t hold the rein in the usual way in my right hand as my ring and pinkie fingers are partially paralyzed, and the space between them is very sensitive. So for me, it goes between the middle and ring fingers.)

I am watching it right now. 5* starts at about 40-45 min into the video

Boyd skipped them for LongIsland. I love thr rule change.

Not to be a negative Nancy, but I’d going to bet she won’t make the time, only because she’s struggled to even in perfect conditions… not sure if it’s the lack of conditioning, or what.

You’re not being negative. It’s a valid neutral observation. Objectively, ML struggles to make time.

Her horses just don’t have the ride-ability or at least in the past have not. This course from the looks of it is going to be won by those who can ride with their seat legs and with the finger finesse of riding with reins like yarn. Forward exact and focused with a whole lot of thinking on your feet.

I forgot about the rule change, then read this and my immediate thought was, “oh good, he’s not going to look like he’s trying to be Abe Lincoln anymore” (sorry, kind of a joke my mom and I have had for a few years that the top hat which stands out since everyone else switched to helmets just makes WFP look a bit like Abe Lincoln). Haven’t watched any livestreaming yet but hoping to catch XC and stadium over the weekend.

I only wish Michael Jung were competing this year - sounds like this course would suit him well. :stuck_out_tongue:

Also, the fact that she has had some nasty spills when the competition was “hers to lose” after the dressage may make her ride cross-country more conservatively. Cumulative falls do have an effect upon the way a rider strategies, even unconsciously, I’m sure.

I just watched the replay of ML’s ride. Dang, despite my dislike for her, what a wonderful ride and what a nice horse.
