Looking for a device to monitor if my mare is getting proper sleep

Well if I was riding in a field of rocks I probably would know that the rocks are the problem before I called the vet for diagnostics.

Horses who lack REM sleep or fall asleep while standing are not uncommon. It’s not hard to diagnose - you can see that she’s falling asleep on her feet. The question is why, and what to do about it, if anything.

I’m not sure how the monitor will help solve the problem, but you seem determined, so go for it.

Have you considered that I might not live in the same area as you, therefor currency or accessibility may be different? you’ve also conveniently omitted the same issues that you seem to be pushing on me for the gadget requiring connection, setup and view time, they also apply to your camera option! I’m not being difficult, I just have already thought it out and spent forever trying to figure out a way to make it work. Have you thought about the fact that I might not have the ability to set it up properly regarding placement and then having the need to take it down, charge it and then replace it? I have, and that’s why I’m looking for something that attaches to her. Would I love to just watch her on video? of course! but again, it’s not an option for me to setup that whole thing. And while your horse might be a blanket shredder or have some issue with things attached to them, mine doesn’t. I’ve spent a LOT of time thinking about how to solve this and have priced out and planned a number of scenarios. Please don’t assume that me saying that it won’t work is me being pigheaded, because honestly it’s looking the same in reverse for a number of you. I’ve explained why your suggestions won’t work and yet they are still being pushed.
The one piece that I thought might work isn’t in my hands at the moment but it’s leading me in the right direction and that’s all I asked for! Nothing else. Just looking for something that can help for the question I asked.
I don’t understand why a simple “hey guys I’m looking for something specific” is now “she must be so dumb that she hasn’t thought of all of these things that are sooooo much easier…”. Quite the opposite. I came here to the internet to ask because I’m looking for something specific and haven’t been able to find it. It’s really that simple. Yup she has been seen falling. Is it everyday? nope. Am I concerned that it might be something physical or external? for sure. What I am trying to do is find out if she has shavings on her because she is rolling, napping or falling. Would a camera do that? yes. Can I install one that will work in my barn? nope for a variety of reasons including some that I haven’t typed out because at this point you’re likely to tell me just to move my horse.
FYI I have contacted the equisense crew and sadly they confirmed that they are not continuing down that avenue. I’ve done the homework and plan on continuing to do it for the right option.

Maybe I should have just asked for a monitor without divulging any extra info, would that have gotten me the help I was asking for?

Let’s try.

Hey everyone! I’m looking for a device that monitors my horses sleep patterns  if you could point me in the direction of one that can easily be attached to her without the need for a subscription I would greatly appreciate it! Only looking for this type, please and thank you

I expect the problem is there is no obvious product so everyone is coming up with other suggestions. I think that some kind of video monitoring is what most breeding operations use on pregnant mares and there isnt much these days including for humans that isn’t internet connected.

Oh? That would certainly be useful to share, since quite a few of these wearable things have limited availability.

Nope, I actually said that it would take about as much time to scan through a night’s worth of footage as it would to connect to the dongle, download the data, and view it.

Nope. What you’re asking for just BARELY exists. One product, that hasn’t been mentioned in publication since 2018, isn’t carried by the large retailers (but used to be), and isn’t linked on the manufacturers website? Man, I hope it works for you, but it’s really not unreasonable to suggest alternatives.

Good luck.

How close is your nearest dairy farm neighbour? They can monitor for everything. Snatch a collar and tap into their system

Those systems are great, but there are limitations. Scrolling through CCTV footage to see exactly what the heck went wrong when you got an alert on your phone is still a thing.

Would a dog activity tracker work on a horse ? https://www.fitbark.com/store/fitbark2/
