That is a complete non-sequitor to what Tini was saying. Almost a flight of fancy!

Sadly, that appears to depend on the color of your skin.

Well I hope Jesus doesn’t plan on making America his Second Coming…he’d be deported after his first sermon.

It’s called following the law. I’m proud to have voted for this! It’;s up to LAEC to have backup plan and shame on them for hiring undocumented workers.

Probably is not really an answer. They are tossing out real number to be disgusted at, so I wanted to know what exact post(s) they were talking about where.

Oof… someone got up on the wrong side of the bed.

I agree. I was uselessly trying to remind a certain poster of that. I failed.

I’m blocking you. You just want to fight. See ya!

900(usd) is ballpark for the parts of the country I am familiar with for stall, cleaning, basic feed and water at a facility with amenities like arenas. Have seen higher. Training is double that, at least.

Gotcha. So the criminal violation versus civil infraction distinction isn’t truly relevant in your eyes. I am not trying to change your mind on that or anything. Just wanted to be clear where you stand on when it is OK for ICE to detain and deport someone.

so this all makes me think of a parking ticket. You went over your allotted time? The extreme response is: No more driving a car for you. You knew the parameters when you parked there.

In reality, a parking ticket usually comes with a fine, some paperwork, and is dismissed upon payment or perhaps a court appearance with the fine, some paperwork and then dismissed. Eventually it could lead to loss of license if enough time has passed or there are other circumstances.

So, in that respect, it is very similar to an expired visa. right? or am I missing something?

Great analogy!

Apathy is real, but for more context Seven’s owner has 4.5M followers, COTH has less than 0.5M

Slight tangent, but man. I can’t imagine posting something online with the thought that even .5M people would see it, much less 4.5M. But I guess that is the way of the world these days.

There was a young singer performing on the Today show this morning who drew a huge crowd of people. I have never heard of him in my life, but they said some of his fans slept on the street overnight in order to get a good spot for his performance.

Apparently he has put out songs that have had 1 billion views online or some crazy number like that. Unreal.

$900 is low. Where I live an empty stall in a decent barn is $1000 +. Includes nothing.

This is now entirely unrelated but I published a science communication article without much thought for an outlet that I’d never really heard of simply as a favor to my PhD advisor who owed a favor to our dean. Spent maybe a week on it? It was a simple concept I just needed to run the numbers, make pretty graphs.

It got republished (under a reuse license) by PBS, pushed as a google new alert, etc. So the views are in the millions now. It follows me everywhere professionally and it’s not even my actual main research area.

Been a while since I looked at self/partial care but that tracks. I’m well over 1k/mo (typing that hurts) for full care and we don’t have the same number of amenities, quality of arenas, 75 acres to hack around, etc.

Wow! :open_mouth:

More news from my bubble:
I live in a sanctuary city and county.
Less than a mile from my home, human smugglers from Mexico routinely attempt to ferry illegals in small boats to land on our beaches. If they make it, everyone jumps out of the boat, and runs into the community where cars are waiting to pick them up and take them where ever their destination is (usually Los Angeles). This happens in broad daylight, in front of surfers, residents and tourists.

The boats are overcrowded, and many of the illegals can’t swim. Sometimes the boasts capsize in the waves while coming ashore and everyone is thrown into the water. Over the years, hundreds have lost their lives. Including a family from India - father and mother, and their young son and daughter.
A few years ago, a smuggler attempted to bring his human cargo ashore at night, in a heavy winter storm. His contact, who was waiting for them on a road by the beach, watched the boat being tossed in the waves and then crash into a cliff. The contact used her cell phone and called the police for help. First responders came, but couldn’t get to the boat because of the waves and high tide. Eventually they were able to get through. Some of the immigrants survived and were taken to hospitals. Others were killed. In my bubble, this is reality, and the deaths break my heart.

In the past months, the Coast Guard and US Navy have partnered to patrol off the coast of Mexico
and California, to intercept the human smugglers crossing by sea. One of those Navy ships was a destroyer redeployed from the Red Sea, where it had taken live fire from the Houthis, thankfully with no injuries. Again, this is happening in my bubble, and is reality.

I know it’s easy for you to discount my reality as worthless. In some way, it must help you to do that.
Everything in my bubble is not okay, yet I’ll say when things go right. As I posted earlier, a small restaurant reopened with legal employees, hotels are in business, and a boarding/training barn with legal employees still has a wait list.

None of what I’ve described in this post may be happening where you are.
It’s happening here though, and is our reality.

The immigration system in the US has been fundamentally broken for decades. I don’t believe there is anyone who doesn’t want to see it fixed. The question is: how do we fix it in a Constitutional and humane way.
