eventer or dq
We share elements of both
I ask, which are we?
when out trail riding
we must (doh!) behave ourselves
no hasty corners
(do DQs trail ride?
We don’t know - they say yes, but
never seem to go.)
We love eventing
that amazing gallop run
spectators scatter
But alas, the mare
has been there, done that. Needs no
evidence further.
The rider still lusts
for the telephone-pole laced
fields, wet interludes.
But dressage is good.
Challenges remain.
Lessons are learned.
When do we finish
the warmup?
Always tricky
to decide as is.
Choosing a horse or
coach, like choosing a college
or lover, changes all.
Someday I will find
the mare a new partner who
likes gallop, no jumps
Then -yes- time to seek
a new partner, who adores
the splash, the run home.
Young partner grateful
(or not!) for long lessons taught
to rider, by mare
Sit still (unless you
mean to talk); ask once (don’t shout);
Ride with confidence.
Who needs arena fence?
A gallop through water worth
twelve hours of driving.
Canter half-pass divine.
Tempi changes fun. But at
night, galloping dreams.
