Lovestruck aka Violet Joy

How’s it going?

Oh definitely. This time, just a phone call saying “healthy filly/colt”.

For me, there is nothing more amazing than the birth of a foal. Yes, it is a bit scary, while you are waiting and wondering if everything is going to come out alright. But once they are out, and you are drying them off, and helping them get up, and take those first few steps- not much is better than that. Plus, once the are nursing well, and everything is OK, you get to go in and play with them and their Mom’s have to take care of them!

What could be better than that?

Will there be a 24 hour streaming cam for us? I’m running out of things to look at when I’m not dealing with upset clients… a foal would be awesome. LOL Kidding, kind of… I saw that foal pic and got all excited, then remembered the mare would be grey. Waaaaaaaaaaaaah… Oh wait, pretty pretty mama pic. I’m ok now. Her shoulder is all that. I’ve secretly stalked her for years.

She is at the foaling facility so I am waiting just like all of you! I do have a cam at their home but not sure if I will make it public or not. I may turn it on while I am in the barn with them and turn it off when we leave. We will see.

You’re going to travel to the foaling facility? I’m surprised you aren’t under a stay at home order from the health department. We’ve been under one for weeks, only leave for food and medicine. I guess every state is different.

If you read through the thread, the foaling facility is closed and she isn’t visiting. There was a discussion about picking up the mare and foal later on and whether or not that was essential. I would say, and others said, that picking up a horse from the vet is essential because leaving a healthy horse at the vet means care and resources diverted to that animal that cannot be diverted to a sick animal that actually needs to be there. She said there is a camera at HOME, which would suggest she is going to have a camera to watch them once they are back at home. Not that she is going back and forth to the vet.

Thanks. I misunderstood the phrase “their home”. Hope all is well.

I tried to post some updated pics of Coco but for whatever reason they were uploading sideways. They are on the link in my signature if you are interested. Anyway it sounds like she is making decent progress. Her bag was bigger this afternoon when they took the pics than it was when they turned her out in the morning which is always one of the hallmarks I look for as you know that is really filling and not just edema from being stalled. Maybe the full moon will do the trick?

She’s so cute and looks like she’s a pretty good size. I had my fingers crossed that that was black on those wet baby legs. lol

I was afraid she was chestnut at first. Which wouldn’t be the end of the world but like bay better. Black would have been fabulous though.
