Fingers crossed - for all of you!!
I’ve been eagerly waiting for this thread to reignite! Cant wait to hear the upcoming good news!
I do a lot better job of updating the McDowell racing stables FB page in my signature, and my daughter does a WAY better job of updating her @Remarkablemare page on instagram but will try to keep you all updated too. I really do thank you all for your help getting to this point!
Fingers crossed, Laurie. All good luck to you and Coco and her Precious Cargo. ox
(ps , I always felt good when I was shipping semen to Nandi, I always felt they were very professional and knowledgeable)
Best wishes for a good outcome!
Thank you! Today’s report is the same as all the others so far. She is eating well, getting along with her pasture mates but no changes otherwise.
Sounds like she is finally starting to build a bag so hopefully is getting closer. I want them HOME!
Well Dr Sheerin called and said they have officially closed the farm to visitors which I completely understand but it still doesn’t make me not want to go pick her up and foal her out myself.
Yes, that must be tough. Good that they’re in a good place though.
I know it’s awful to not be able to see her, but she’s in good hands.
:D:encouragement:
We all know horses don’t have due dates but here we are at day 342. Which is also the day that the Governor (finally!) mandated a stay at home order beginning at 8pm. I know that caring for livestock is essential and therefore allowed but the ban on crossing state lines is a little grayer to me. It could be argued that picking up a horse from a hospital when they are ready to come home is essential but it could also be argued that she is in good hands and could just stay there. I know they are short handed however and the last thing they want is horses hanging around longer than necessary. I am probably overthinking this but I have nothing but time to think right now. I toyed with the idea of bringing her home today but my luck I would end up needing a vet and wishing I had let the vet foal her out so she is staying.
I would consider moving a horse to or from a vet clinic to be “essential.” As you said, if she is at the clinic, someone ELSE will have to care for her. If she is home with you, that may relieve the burden for someone else to stay home (or allow a more critical equine case to be hospitalized).
I know exactly how you feel. I have a mare stuck at my friend’s 60 miles away and we’re not allowed to travel so I can’t go and get her. She’s absolutely fine but it’s always a worry having them away from home.
In your case I’d leave her where she is until the foal arrives.
I am leaving her there, I am just worried about picking them up. I would be heartbroken if I brought her home and she needed a vet imminently.
I know how hard it must be but I think leaving her at the vet is the safe thing to do.
OMG this wait is especially excruciating when I literally have nothing to do! Juliet’s birthday is Sunday, I am sure she would love a foal that she didn’t have to carry as a gift! Can be an early gift too.
Wow. Why does she have such a belly?
Hang in there. You’ll have great foal before you know it. Isn’t it super that we are in the age of technology and that you will be able to see the foal via cell phone or other means?
Is the recipient mare indoors? Have you asked if they would install a camera in the foaling stall so that you can watch remotely, or would that make things more stressful for you?
Good luck! I know it must be difficult for you not to be there.
I like my horses on the plump side but most of that is the angle of the photo. Yes Coco is in a foaling stall and they do have cameras but no there is no way for me to see it. That would absolutely make it immensely less stressful.
Day 346 brings no change. Tailhead is slightly softened, udder is still small. Doesn’t sound like she is going to go on 347 like she did last time unless she makes tremendous strides overnight.
