Lovestruck aka Violet Joy

I am pretty sure I saw the foal move yesterday which inspired me to think of a barn name. Since I am almost positive it is a colt I am naming him Hamlet. I do have a filly name too just in case. I am starting to get excited! March 30, 2020 here we come!

We had a neighbor who had Basset Hound named Hamlet.
I’m sure your colt will not resemble him.

Let’s hope he or she doesn’t!

Melancholy Dane for a show name!

It has to start with L so no. My daughter Olivia wants to name him Oliver. Think that is a no too.

Are you going to ultrasound for gender? Love seeing pics of Coco and her tooth gap . So cute!

P.

No we are done with ultrasounds unless it looks like there may be a problem with the placenta at some point. I just “know” these things somehow. Never been wrong yet and have been breeding horses for over 2 decades. Sooner or later I will get it wrong and if it is this time that’s ok.

The senior equine repro vet at our vet school likes to point out that she’s been right in her sexing ultrasound analyses about 50% of the time. So I don’t blame you for not springing for an extra ultrasound, though I don’t think I’d have enough willpower to skip it myself!

I am batting 1000 so far, and I don’t really care either way so I don’t see any point.

Having second thoughts on the Hamlet name. Good thing we have many, many months to decide!

If his dam’s barn name is Juliet, then Lord Capulet would be an obvious name for a colt, or Lady Capulet for a filly.

If you want the Hamlet name, Laertes is the way to go.

And given the amount of heartache you’ve had over the last few months, Lacrimosa.

May have a little change in plans but since Coco is 306 days with Juliet’s foal I don’t have a lot of time to figure it out. I want to foal her out in PA so the foal is a PA bred. Any suggestions for places relatively close to the MD line? New Bolton is full, am contacting Northview and Nandi tomorrow. Would really like a smaller place that you don’t have to automatically give plasma. Thank you.

Quick question, why do you want her PA bred? I knew they had some tb programs, but is there a warmblood program too?

Likely for the hunter breeding at Devon.

The foal will be showing at Magic Hill Farm in PA as well as at Devon so might as well have a PA bred. I have several places to contact tomorrow.

Great choice. They will take wonderful care of your Coco.

Coco hauled like a pro and settled right into her stall so I have one less thing to stress over.

Yay! I’m so excited for you; Juliet’s foal is going to have the biggest cheering squad of COTH “grandmas” ever, I think.

Thanks! It is such a scary time in the world right now that I am relieved that they are in a safe place but going crazy that they are not under my care. I am hopeful once he makes his arrival that there won’t be any issues going across state lines to pick them up. Seems like things are changing on a moment to moment basis.
“Due date” is a week from today!
