Maclay Finals 2021

Wonder what the out of the 3 stride looked like from the side. Looked really weak and like she didn’t leave the ground clean from behind.

This horse does strange things behind when it’s getting deep.

Any Given Sunday will be 19 in May!

The quality of horses here today has been interesting to watch. There was one earlier who was piloted by a very competent rider, but who struck me as being in the equitation ring because it clearly had no aptitude for the others. And then of course you have the horses like Finnick who were born to do it… and Quimby, who was born to do everything.

Brian pls I’d like to hear Dominic’s thoughts on the round, you can interview him magazine style later.

Yeah, meanwhile Cody’s there just sitting chilly on that nice chestnut horse, going around that course like it’s the warm up ring, while Brian is going on. Nice trip!

I didn’t like Layla’s entrance into the ring, but I liked the trip for the most part and I love Bear.

IIRC, Layla used to have a horse named The Flying Ham and I always thought that was really funny.

Natalie made those adjustments really well.

That is majestic.

While we’re on the subject of names, is Bear the horse’s full name? It’s precious.

I think it’s Calberon B, I just see a lot of mentions of him as Bear on social media because I’m friends with her trainer, Syd.

In a class that has had Brownie and Charlie, I was kind of hoping that we also had a Bear. But that is a very suitable nickname for a horse called Calberon that looks like a blown-up pony.

I misheard Keoki’s name in the power & speed the other night as “Gnocchi” and decided I need to get myself a bunch of fancy pony prospects that I’ll train up and they will all have pasta show names.

Hannah’s horse looks SO adjustable. Beautiful trip.

I love the way it comes back and collects- the neck comes up, the ears come up, it looks adorable through the bridle, and it’s kind of flamboyant with the front end the first two steps.

I held my breath that whole round. So nice.

Hannah Hoch’s round was just gorgeous! I’d love to see her with a really top placing. I feel like she’s been around for a while, usually gets called back, but never quite makes it to the ride off.

She’s had some great results in the jumpers this year. Would be neat to see her cap off her year with a ribbon at Maclay!

Alexander Alston. i am such a fan. well done!!

Alexander has a great eye and the horses love him, but I think some of those position flaws will be enough to keep him out of the top, top ribbons.

It was a nice trip. He just needs to polish his position more.
